BaT Auction: 160-Mile 2006 Ford GT

This 2006 Ford GT is one of 2,011 produced for the model year and is finished in Mark IV Red over Ebony leather. It was originally ordered through Vincennes Ford Inc. of Vincennes, Indiana, and was built on June 9, 2006 at the Wixom Assembly Plant in Michigan. The car remained with its first owner for eight years and was acquired by the selling dealer in March 2019. It now shows 160 miles and is optioned with forged aluminum wheels, red brake calipers, and a McIntosh stereo. A mid-mounted and supercharged 5.4L V8 drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle equipped with a limited-slip differential. The sale will include the window sticker, owner’s manual, delivery materials, a coffee table book, workshop manuals, a battery tender and car cover, a copy of the vehicle order confirmation, and a factory production certificate. This Ford GT is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Carfax report and a clean Ohio title.

The first-generation Ford GT was designed as an homage to the Le Mans-winning GT40 race cars of the 1960s. A two-year production run from 2005 to 2006 saw 4,038 examples built, each featuring an extruded aluminum spaceframe, roll-bonded floor panels, and superplastic-formed aluminum body panels. Standard aerodynamic elements include a front splitter, rear lip spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts, and an enclosed underbody with venturi tunnels. This example is one of only six Ford GTs finished in Mark IV Red with the factory stripe-delete option for the 2006 model year.

Optional forged aluminum wheels made by BBS measure 18” in diameter up front and 19” out back and wear Goodyear Eagle F1 tires measuring 235/45 and 315/40 respectively. The Brembo brake system utilizes four-piston monoblock calipers with an optional red finish, along with cross-drilled and ventilated rotors that measure 14” up front and 13.2” in the rear. A video tour of the vehicle can be seen above.

Sparco-designed seats are trimmed in Ebony leather and feature manually adjustable carbon fiber shells with GT40-style ventilation grommets and racing harness provisions. A friction stir-welded magnesium center console encapsulates the fuel tank and carries rotary climate controls, a brushed aluminum handbrake lever, and a gearshift lever topped with an aluminum knob. Additional amenities include air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and an optional McIntosh CD player. Factory protective materials and caution hang-tags are still present.

The instrumentation layout was also inspired by the GT40 and includes a central 8k-rpm tachometer and an offset 220-mph speedometer. Additional gauges display coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, boost pressure, and fuel level, while toggle switches control the lighting and rear window defrost. Both airbags were reportedly replaced under a factory recall at 157 miles in August 2019 at Germain Ford of Columbus, Ohio. The digital odometer shows 160 miles.

The mid-mounted 5.4-liter V8 features an aluminum block, cylinders heads, and pistons, as well as a dry-sump lubrication system. A Lysholm screw-type supercharger and an air-to-water intercooler help produce a factory-rated output of 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle and a helical limited-slip differential. A maintenance inspection was performed by Germain Ford of Columbus, Ohio in August 2019. A cold-start video can be viewed above.

The double-wishbone suspension utilizes unequal-length aluminum control arms along with coilover shocks and stabilizer bars at the front and rear. Additional underside photos are included in the gallery below.

A production certificate from Ford is pictured above, and other factory documentation includes the window sticker, an owner’s manual, a copy of the original vehicle order confirmation, a 2006 Ford GT Paint Option Matrix, a Marketing Strategy document, and a Ford GT dealer handbook. A factory battery tender, service manual and wiring diagram, car cover, and protective plastic seat coverings are also included.

The Carfax report is free of accidents or other issues and lists registration events in Indiana, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Florida. A driving video is attached below.
