This 1960 Plymouth Fury two-door hardtop is finished in Jet Black over a red interior and was sold new by the Wright Motor Corp. in Roanoke, Virginia. The current owner acquired the car in 2009 following an extended period of storage. Subsequent recommissioning is said to have included rebuilds of the carburetor and starter, a transmission service, updates to the fuel system, fluid changes, and more. Power is provided by a 361ci Golden Commando V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. This Fury is now offered on dealer consignment with a Chrysler production record, literature, memorabilia, service records, and a clean North Carolina title.
By 1960, the Fury replaced the Belvedere as Plymouth’s top-of-the-line model, with a four-door sedan and four-door hardtop joining the previous two-door hardtop and convertible models on a new-for-1960 unibody platform. The body on this example is finished in Jet Black, and sheet metal repair on the trunk floor and passenger door were performed by the current owner. Paint touchups are also noted.
Red-painted 14″ steel wheels wear full covers and American Classic wide whitewall tires, and a set of bias-ply whitewall tires are included in the sale. Per the selling dealer, the brake shoes, hoses, and wheel cylinders were replaced during current ownership.
The refreshed cabin features red seating with textured cloth inserts complemented by black carpeting and bright trim. The push-button AM radio has been rebuilt according to the selling dealer, and features include full-width sun visors, an analog clock, and lap belts for the front occupants.
A floating instrument pod resides atop the tiered dash fascia and houses the Teleview 120-mph speedometer along with directional indicators and battery and oil pressure warning lamps. Note the push-button transmission controls to the left of the instruments. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 87k miles, 5k of which were added by the current owner. Actual mileage is unknown.
The 361ci Golden Commando V8 is topped with a four-barrel carburetor and produced approximately 300 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Recommissioning work during current ownership is said to have included a carburetor rebuild, a transmission service, a cooling system flush, rebuilds of the starter and generator, and replacement of the transmission pan gasket, spark plug wires, voltage regulator, and fuel tank, fuel pump, lines, and hoses.
Further work is said to include replacements for the rear leaf springs and shocks and rebuilds for the front end and steering box.
A Chrysler production record is presented above and details the car’s factory options and other build information. The trim tag is depicted in the gallery and also provides the car’s original color and trim specifications.
