This 1973 Datsun 510 was acquired by the seller in 2016 and subsequently built by the seller from March 2017 through June 2019. A 2.4-liter KA24DE inline-four and a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a Nissan 240SX were installed, and a dual side-draft carburetor conversion was performed. A Subaru R160 limited-slip differential with upgraded CV joints and axles is paired with the upgraded powertrain. The bodywork was stripped and refinished in white with gold exterior trim. The black interior was also refreshed with aftermarket bucket seats, gold trim, and replacement carpeting. The suspension was modified with coil-over suspension from Troy Ermish Racing, and all four corners are now equipped with Wilwood disc brakes. This KA24DE-powered 510 is now offered with refurbishment photos and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was stripped and tanked in March 2017, rust was repaired, and the bodywork was refinished in single-stage PPG paint, as shown in the photo gallery below. Features include body-matching bumpers, a modified aluminum Skillard diffuser, gold trim, and deleted windshield wipers.
15″ Rota RB wheels are mounted with 205/50 Dunlop Direzza tires. The seller reports that the coil-over suspension was sourced from Troy Ermish Racing and that the crossmembers and the control arms have been powdercoated. Wilwood disc brakes are equipped at all four corners.
The interior features aftermarket black bucket seats mounted on adjustable sliders with material-matching door panels and replacement carpeting. The doorsills and custom-fabricated aluminum trim lining the panels are finished in anodized gold. Weatherstripping was replaced and Dynamat sound-dampening material was added to the roof, doors, trunk, side panels, and some of the floor according to the seller.
A three-spoke Momo steering wheel fronts a black dashboard with aftermarket instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. The digital odometer reportedly shows 10 miles, reflecting distance driven since completion of the project; true mileage is unknown. The heater and the radio were deleted with parts made by the seller.
The 2.4-liter KA24DE four-cylinder was sourced from a Nissan 240SX. The engine was converted to a dual side-draft carburetor setup with a custom intake manifold fabricated by the seller and features a distributor built by Troy Ermish as well as an exhaust header. The exhaust pipes, transmission mount, and CV axle kit also were sourced from Troy Ermish Racing. The engine bay features a flat firewall and tucked brake lines and wiring, and the engine work was completed along with the rest of the car around June 2019. In late 2019 the carburetor was re-jetted and the seller removed the cylinder head, had it resurfaced, and installed a Fel-Pro gasket.
The five-speed manual transmission was sourced from a 240SX and it reportedly was rebuilt in 2019. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Subaru R160 viscous limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
A number of in-progress photos captured during the refurbishment are provided at the end of the gallery. The picture below shows the car prior to commencement of the project.
A driving video is provided below. Videos showing a compression test and a cold-start can be viewed at each link.
