BaT Auction Success Story: 1250-Mile Roadtrip in a 1969 Bronco

This just in from @racedeck, the buyer of the 1969 Ford Bronco (link) that sold on BaT on July 17th 2020:

“We (Racedeck Garage Floor owners Jorgen and Kerry) took a 1250 mile road trip in the PNW to Utah in Kerry’s new unrestored and all original 1969 Ford Bronco.

The route (getting familiar with the 51 year old ride), we decided to bounce down the coast is this rustic ride for the first few days then move east towards UT.

We picked up the classic Bronco from the seller in Olympia WA. Lisa had owned this bronco for over 20 years and has fantastic restaurant in Olympia called ‘The Mark Restaurant’ which is now closed due to covid but is still doing catered events during these challenging times. When we arrived in Olympia, we met up with Lisa at her restaurant and she greeted us with a huge smile and a spectacular dinner she prepared for us. We headed out back to see the Bronco and Kerry just loved it. Tears flowed from Lisa as she handed off her girl to Kerry, then we spent the evening on her restaurant patio with delicious food, wine and great company with our newly made friend. To say this Bronco has a story and soul is an understatement.

We headed out the next morning towards the coast and ended up in Long Beach, WA. A cool seaside town that is famed for ‘the longest beach’ where we could drive the bronco on the beach down the coast ‘great fun’. We enjoyed some incredible seafood as well.

The next morning we headed out with a stop in Ilawaco Harbor for some coffee and breakfast then continued to OR passing through small towns and eventually hitting the coast at Seaside and down to Cannon Beach. Cannon beach is one of the most stunning and scenic coastlines in the world and we loved it so much we spent a couple of days there venturing out to along the coast to explore.

Now, we head east to Portland and she (the bronco) was driving fantastic. In Portland, we made a stop at the famed Voodoo Doughnuts and Pizza Jerk. We cruised through town and then headed out; next stop Hood River.

One the way to HR, the temps were climbing to around 95 but the bronco ran solid, with the exception of the heater being stuck on. Our guess is that the inside cab temps were well over 100 and the floor almost melting our shoes. Once landing in HR, we both immediately Jumped IN the River to cool off; felt so good! I let the car cool and decided it had to be a stuck heater valve in the hose coming out of the radiator. I decided to cut the hose into the cab and just loop the hose back to the engine. Later, we ventured out for test ride to White Salmon WA across the bridge and it worked ‘Yeah! – we had a great dinner on Mainstreet that evening

That morning we loaded up for our longest stretch; to Boise, ID. We made a number of stops in small towns along the way. The bronco was amazing, cruising 65 all day. We spend the night and then headed out again to Twin Falls, ID and after a stop, we then headed to SLC Utah ( we drove over 1253 miles).

I would say that it should be on everyones bucket-list to do a road trip in an old car, especially in a place like the PNW and west.”

Thanks for the great update. That sure sounds like a bucket list trip! What a great adventure in the Pacific Northwest, and the Bronco looks right at home on the beach and in the city!

Congratulations on the win, and thanks to @surfergirl for listing this one with us.
