This BMW 2002tii Touring is one of 1,867 built for the 1972 model year and was reportedly purchased by a US soldier stationed in Germany in 2013. The car is said to have been driven throughout Europe, including on the Nürburgring, prior to importation to the US in 2016, and was offered on BaT in November 2017 before being acquired by the seller the following year. Power comes from a replacement fuel-injected 2.0L inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Additional modifications include a Shrick 292 camshaft and valve springs, a Becker Mexico stereo, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This 2002tii Touring is offered with a German-language owner’s manual, a metric instrument cluster, recent service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The Michelotti-designed Touring hatchback was not offered in the US market. This example was finished in Chamonix from the factory, and is thought to have been repainted under previous ownership. Detail include dual side mirrors, round taillights, German license plates, and a BMW Nürburgring decal affixed to the rear sheet metal. A walk-around video has been provided by the seller.
Factory 13” alloy wheels are mounted with 2012-dated Nexen Classic Premier CP641 tires. Service performed under previous ownership in the 2010s is said to have included replacement of the rear brake drums and shoes as well as installation of Bilstein rear shocks.
The cabin was reupholstered in black vinyl with matching carpets and white seat inserts under previous ownership, and a later Becker Mexico cassette stereo was added. A tii-specific clock is mounted on the dash.
An aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a replacement MPH instrument cluster with a five-digit odometer reading approximately 3,500 miles. A removed metric cluster showing 52k kilometers (~32k miles) is included in the sale. Approximately 800 miles have been added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 2.0-liter M10 inline-four was installed in 2016 and features Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection that was serviced with a new pump by Pacific Fuel Injection of San Francisco, California in March of the same year. The engine is said to feature a Schrick camshaft and valve springs. A new distributor, starter, water pipe, hoses, and engine mounts were fitted under previous ownership.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed overdrive manual transmission. A new clutch and pressure plate, rear fuel pump, and muffler were installed in the 2010s.
An owner’s manual, recent service records, and a photo of the car on the Nürburgring are included in the sale. Driving videos are provided below and on the seller’s YouTube channel.
