This 1973 Jaguar XKE roadster was sold new by Anderson Foreign Motors of Woburn, Massachusetts, and it reportedly remained with its original owner until 1996, when it was acquired by a person who kept the car until 2019. A mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment performed approximately twenty years ago in Vermont included refinishing the car in its factory-delivered Regency Red over a refreshed black leather interior. The car’s numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 was rebuilt, and additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, quad Stromberg carburetors, 15″ wire wheels, and a black soft top with a matching boot cover. Approximately 1,600 miles have been added since completion of the project in late 2000, and the car was mechanically refreshed during multiple visits to Stew Jones Restoration in Connecticut from 2016 to 2017. The carburetors were tuned in 2019, the same year the vehicle was acquired by the current owner. This Series III XKE roadster is now offered on dealership consignment with a copy of its 1973 Massachusetts registration, a spare tire, jack, owner’s manual, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean California title.
The car was delivered new in Regency Red and was refinished in 1997 due to cracking in the lacquer finish, and the selling dealer states that the car has been stored in a climate-controlled facility since that time. Features include a black soft top, a matching boot cover, quad exhaust outlets, and chrome-finished bumpers with guards. The selling dealer notes a paint chip in the driver-side rocker panel near the hood as well as an imperfection near the bottom of the grille.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are mounted with Jaguar knockoffs and wear Pirelli P400 whitewall tires. The suspension was rebuilt in the 1990s.
The cabin features black leather upholstery with matching black plastics, trim, and carpeting. The bolstered bucket seats feature headrests, and an aftermarket stereo has been fitted in the factory location underneath switchgear in the center of the dashboard.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of factory Smiths instrumentation that includes a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows just under 15k miles, approximately 1,600 of which have been added during current ownership.
The selling dealer states that the 5.3-liter V12 was rebuilt during the late 1990s. Features include dual Stromberg carburetors for each cylinder bank, restored airboxes, and polished trim. Receipts from 2016 to 2017 for $22k at Stew Jones Restoration indicate that the carburetors, plenums, vacuum and coolant hoses, upper radiator shroud, and thermostat housing were removed and cleaned. Additional work performed included rebuilding the carburetors and tachometer, inspecting the valves, replacing the fans, installing an SNG Barratt ignition system, and more. The carburetors were tuned in 2019, and additional service has been performed per receipts shown in the photo gallery.
The engine stamping reads 7S9759LA and matches the number shown on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate as well as the plaque affixed to the firewall, which is pictured in the gallery.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underside are presented below.
Photos of the car during the restoration are provided in the gallery, as are a number of invoices from Best of Britain in South Ryegate, Vermont.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a December 1972 build date, serial numbers, the factory red and black color scheme, and initial delivery to New York in February 1972.
