BaT Auction: 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa G50

This 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa was sold new by Holbert’s Motors in Warrington, Pennsylvania, and was reportedly acquired by the seller from racing driver Dick Barbour in 2019. The car is finished in Guards Red over black and is powered by a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed G50 manual transaxle. Service in January 2019 included rebuilding the cylinder heads and fuel injectors, resealing the engine, and replacing the clutch assembly. Service since the seller’s acquisition reportedly includes overhauling the fuel system and replacing the body seals, brake pads, axle boots, and tires. This Carrera Targa is offered with a binder of service documents, tire inflation and tool kits, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in Guards Red during previous ownership and features integrated fog lights, a whale-tail rear spoiler, and a removable targa roof panel. Service during the seller’s ownership reportedly includes replacing the targa-bar seal, door seals, gas cap, filler flap, and rear bumper guards. Staggered-width 16″ Fuchs wheels wear BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 tires. The car is equipped with Bilstein dampers all around, and the seller states that the brake pads, sensors, and tie-rod ends were recently replaced.

The cockpit is upholstered in black, and the leather seats feature power-adjustments for the driver. Amenities include a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, drilled-aluminum pedals, and Coco Mats. The passenger-side window motor was replaced in March 2019, and the seller reports that new cabin speakers were recently installed. The air conditioning does not blow cold, and the cruise control does not work.

Instrumentation consists of a central 7k-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer, as well as gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added by the seller.

The 3.2-liter flat-six was serviced in January 2019 by Graham Everett Motorsports in Braselton, Georgia. Work included resealing the engine and rebuilding the cylinder heads. Service during the seller’s ownership reportedly includes replacing the the distributor cap and rotor, charcoal canister, air box, and spark plug wires, in addition to the fuel pump, filter, and hoses. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch assembly, release-bearing guide tube, and shift fork were replaced in January 2019. The seller reports that recent service includes applying undercoating to the wheel wells and replacing the fuel-filler hose, fuel-level sending unit, and the axle boots.

The September 2020 Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and shows registration history in Pennsylvania and Illinois.
