This 1958 Volvo PV444 is finished in cream over a red and white interior and is powered by a 1.8-liter B18 inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The car underwent a refurbishment before its purchase by the selling dealer, with work said to have included the engine swap, a transmission rebuild, a clutch replacement, brake servicing, a repaint, and interior refresh. The selling dealer refinished the car in mid-2020, and other work included fluid changes and replacement of the spark plugs. This PV444 is now offered with photos of the refurbishment and recent respray as well as a clean Arizona title.
Introduced in 1944 and produced until 1958, the PV444 was Volvo’s first unibody car and featured a split windshield and single taillights. Finished from the factory in Ruby Red (46), this car was painted cream by a prior owner and refinished again by the selling dealer in the current Golden Beige (48) color in preparation for the sale. Further modifications include rear taillights and badging from a PV544 model.
Black 15″ steel wheels display some chipping and are fitted with chrome trim rings and Volvo-branded hubcaps. The condition of the finish and trim can be viewed up close in the image gallery below.
The interior features front bucket and rear bench seats reupholstered in white vinyl, with red cloth inserts and matching door trim and carpets. The body-color steel dash is capped with a black pad and houses a Volvo Bendix AM radio, an ashtray, and a lockable glove compartment.
A three-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring fronts a center-mounted speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges, and an aftermarket Sunpro gauge is fitted under the dash. The five-digit odometer shows just over 26k miles, with actual mileage unknown.
Originally equipped with a B16B engine, the Volvo was fitted with a rebuilt 1.8-liter B18 inline-four from a PV544 during prior ownership in April 2013. A brake servicing is said to have been completed under prior ownership, while work completed by the selling dealer included fluid changes and replacement of the spark plugs.
