This 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa is a German-market example that was acquired by the current owner in April 2020. Work carried out in the last four years included a repaint in its original shade of Black Metallic, a rebuild of the air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six, and an upgraded air conditioning kit. Shifting is through a five-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes a black partial leather interior, removable targa roof panel, cross-spoke 15″ alloy wheels, and an aftermarket head unit. This 911SC is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, refurbishment photos, partial service records, and a clean Arizona title.
The body was stripped to bare metal and repainted its original shade of Black Metallic (A2) in 2018 by Martin’s Classic Cars of Huntsville, Alabama. The windshield, left front fender, rear valance, and rear bumper were replaced at this time, while the removable targa roof panel was refurbished in April 2019. Additional equipment includes European-spec H4 headlamps with washers, fog lights, and dual body-color side mirrors.
Cross-spoke 15″ alloy wheels with Porsche-crest center caps wear Yokohama YK580 tires. The brake system was serviced in 2015 with rebuilt front calipers and replacement front pads.
The cabin is upholstered in black partial leather with matching door panels and carpets. Embroidered mats line the footwells, and amenities include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a modern Alpine head unit. An air conditioning upgrade kit was installed in August 2018, and the system utilizes R12 refrigerant.
VDO instrumentation includes a 170-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,250-rpm redline, as well as gauges for oil pressure, level, and temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 135k miles, approximately 500 of which were added during current ownership.
The air-cooled 3.0L flat-six is equipped with port fuel injection and sends power to the rear wheels through a 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The engine was rebuilt by Onderka Motor Company of Manchester, Tennessee in 2017, which included replacement of the timing chain, valve stem seals, rod bearings, and more as outlined in the invoice provided in the image gallery below. The muffler was also replaced at this time, while the clutch was replaced in 2016.
