BaT Auction: Vortec-Powered 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62

This 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 was acquired by the owner in 2014, and it was subsequently refurbished and modified. The exterior was refinished in white, the frame was replaced, the axles were rebuilt, an Old Man Emu lift kit and Fox Racing shocks were fitted, and an E-rod LC9 5.3-liter V8 paired, a 4L65E four-speed automatic transmission, and custom driveshafts were installed by TLC 4×4 of Chatsworth, California. Additional maintenance performed by the seller included an oil change, replacement of the spark plugs, rebuilding the two-speed transfer case and axles, and servicing the transmission and air-conditioning system. This FJ62 is now offered on behalf of its owner by her son in North Carolina with build records, a Carfax report, and a clean Louisiana title.

The body was removed from the frame and repainted white in March 2018 by BTB Products in Henderson, Nevada. Refurbishment work consisted of restoring the headlights and trim, as well as replacement of hood and liftgate seals, weatherstripping, emblems, wiper arms, door glass, and more as detailed on invoices provided in the gallery below. The Carfax report lists damage occurring to the rear of the vehicle in August 2007, with no further information provided.

Factory 15″ chrome-finished wheels are mounted with Michelin LTX AT2 tires all around. The suspension is raised using a combination of the Old Man Emu components and Fox Racing shocks. Service work performed during current ownership included rebuilding the brake booster, as well as replacing the rear brake pads and shoes.

The cabin is trimmed in striped gray cloth and gray vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, power accessories, and an Alpine CD player. The air-conditioning system is said to have been serviced in December 2019.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a combination gauge that houses auxiliary instruments and warning lights. The six-digit odometer shows 117k miles, approximately 10k of which have been added by the owner.

The 5.3-liter E-rod LC9 V8 was installed by TLC 4×4 in Chatsworth, California in May 2015, along with a 4L65E four-speed automatic transmission, a rebuilt transfer case, and custom driveshafts. The transmission is said to have been serviced in December 2019.

The replacement frame is shown above, and the underside was coated at the time of the exterior refurbishment. Additional work performed during current ownership included refinishing the fuel tank, as well as rebuilding the front and rear axles with knuckle seals, gaskets, bearings, and fluids.

An invoice from TLC 4×4 dated May 2015 documents the installation of the engine and transmission.

An additional photo showing stages of the refurbishment is provided in the gallery below, along with refurbishment and modification records.

The September 2020 Carfax report shows the aforementioned damage report in August 2007 and lists registration history in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, and Louisiana through its most recent entry in January 2019.
