BaT Auction: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 427/435 4-Speed

This 1967 Chevrolet Corvette coupe was assembled in St. Louis, Missouri and reportedly sold new in Wisconsin. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 427ci L71 V8 equipped with tri-power induction and paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and the car is finished in Marlboro Maroon with a black hood stripe over a black vinyl interior. Equipment is said to include the F41 suspension package, speed alert, power windows, and side-exit exhaust pipes. Recent maintenance is said to consist of a differential rebuild, a transmission service, oil change, brake fluid flush, and replacement spark plugs. This C2 Corvette was recently acquired by the selling dealer and is now being offered with a tank sticker, photos and receipts from prior ownership, a binder of previous registration cards, and a clean Florida title.

The exterior is finished in Marlboro Maroon (988) with a black stripe over the hood bulge and scoop. Additional exterior features include chrome split bumpers, retractable headlights, and side-exit exhaust pipes. The rear fender lips were cut to accommodate wider wheels and tires during prior ownership, though factory-style lips have since been re-installed and repainted. Corrosion is evident around the driver-side A-pillar, and the seller notes spider-webbing in the paint along with cracked lacquer.

The silver rally wheels feature chrome hubcaps and trim rings and are wrapped in period-style Firestone white stripe tires. The braking system utilizes discs at all four corners and was recently flushed per the seller. The car is said to be equipped with the F41 suspension package, which includes heavy-duty springs, shock absorbers, and a front anti-roll bar.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. A Delco AM/FM radio is mounted vertically in the center of the dash, and the car is equipped with power windows.

A faux-wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer with a speed warning buzzer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays just over 63k miles, though true mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the fuel gauge is inaccurate.

The 427ci L71 V8 features three two-barrel carburetors and was factory-rated at 435 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission. Recent maintenance is said to include an oil change, a rebuilt differential, a transmission service, and replacement spark plugs. The factory shielding and braided spark plug wires are included with the sale.

Engine block stamping 7106941 matches the last six digits on the chassis identification plate shown in the gallery below. The “JE” suffix to the left indicates a 427ci/435-horsepower engine with a manual transmission.

A number of photos show the car in period, and a video of a drag strip pass is included with the sale.
