BaT Auction: 1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4×4 5-Speed

This 1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5 was sold new by Competition Toyota in London, Ontario, and was acquired by the selling dealer in July 2013. The truck was subsequently refurbished between 2014 and 2018, and work is said to have included corrosion repair, a repaint in Gloss Black Metallic, a suspension overhaul, refinished factory alloy wheels, new tires and suspension components, and more as described below. Power is provided by a 3.0-liter V6 paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, and factory equipment includes a sunroof, sport seats, and power windows and locks. This 4Runner is now offered in Canada with the original purchase agreement, factory manuals, two keys, a sunroof shade, a tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean British Columbia registration.

The truck has been refinished in Gloss Black Metallic, and the selling dealer states that body work performed prior to the repaint included a replacement tailgate and fenders, as well as corrosion repair in the quarter panels. Features include chrome bumpers, a removable hardtop with sliding side windows, a power tailgate window, and a power antenna. Blemishes include oxidized hardtop trim and a missing right side mirror mount cover. Close-up photos can be viewed in the gallery.

Factory 15″ alloy wheels have been refurbished and wear Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. Rancho shocks are fitted all around, and the torsion bars have been adjusted to raise the ride height. The refresh reportedly included replacing the ball joints, brake rotors, pads, and shoes.

The interior is trimmed in gray cloth and features sport seats, power windows and door locks, and a Pioneer CD player. The refresh reportedly included replacing the windshield, shift boots, and center armrest. There is a tear in the driver-seat upholstery, and the seat frame shows oxidation.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, voltage, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 186k kilometers (~115k miles), approximately 1,500 of which have been added by the selling dealer.

The 3.0-liter 3VZ-E V6 features electronic fuel injection and was factory-rated for 145 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The battery and spark plugs were replaced during the refresh.

Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The underside and frame have been painted, and the exhaust system has been replaced. Additional photos are provided in the gallery.

The September 2020 Carfax Canada report indicates no accidents or damage and shows registration history in Ontario through its most recent entry in October 2007. An eight-minute video featuring walk-around, interior, and driving footage is provided below.
