BaT Auction: 1991 Maserati Shamal

This 1991 Maserati Shamal is one of 369 produced during a six-year production run and was sold new by Majestic Garage of Geneva, Switzerland. It later spent time in the United Arab Emirates and was imported to Canada in 2014 when it was acquired by the seller. The car has been refinished in red over a black leather interior, and the twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter V8 is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a limited-slip differential, aftermarket 18″ wheels, a Kenwood Bluetooth stereo, and a trunk-mounted subwoofer. This Shamal shows 38k kilometers (~24k miles) and is now offered in Canada with a set of factory wheels, the removed exhaust and airboxes, factory manuals, a maintenance booklet, service records, a car cover, import documents, and transferable Ontario registration in the seller’s name.

The Shamal was designed in collaboration with Marcello Gandini and features boxed fenders, an angular rear wheel arch, a spoiler at the base of the windshield, fog lights, and quad exhaust outlets in the rear bumper. This example has been refinished in red and features a gray targa-style roll bar.

Aftermarket 18″ GFG multi-piece forged wheels feature gray centers and polished lips. They are mounted with Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires over disc brakes at all four corners. A set of factory 16″ alloy wheels will also be included and are shown mounted in the gallery.

The cabin features bolstered seats with black leather upholstery over gray carpeting. Equipment includes automatic climate control and a Kenwood Bluetooth stereo, and a subwoofer is present in the trunk. The seller notes that the blower is weak, and wear is visible on the wooden shift knob.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a black leather-upholstered dashboard housing a 300-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a boost-pressure gauge, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer shows 38k kilometers (~24k miles), approximately 5k of which were added by the seller over the previous five years.

The twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter AM479 V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Upgraded airboxes as well as a Tubi exhaust are installed, and the fluids were changed two years ago.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
