BaT Auction: 1947 Standard Fourteen Drophead Coupe Project

This 1947 Standard Fourteen drophead coupe is a right-hand-drive example that was recently acquired by the selling dealer. The car is finished in black over red and is equipped with a non-running 1,776cc side-valve inline-four mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Features include coach doors, a folding cabriolet top, driving lights, a rear-mounted spare-tire cover, and a chrome grille and bumpers. This Fourteen is now offered in Washington with a clean Illinois title.

Riding on a 100″ wheelbase, the Fourteen was additionally offered as a four-door sedan. This Tickford-bodied example features chrome bumpers, Lucas driving lights, two pairs of side mirrors, and coach doors. The black finish is paired with a matching three-position cabriolet top, and the current condition of the paint is captured in detail in the photo gallery below.

Black-painted 16″ steel wheels are fitted with trim rings and Standard-branded hub covers and wear period-style BFGoodrich radial tires. A body-color case at the rear accommodates a full-size spare.

The right-hand-drive interior features front bucket seats trimmed in red upholstery with a matching rear bench, door panels, and floor covering. Equipment includes a three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, an adjustable rearview mirror, and woodgrain doorcap trim.

Centralized Smiths and Jaeger instrumentation includes an 80-mph speedometer and readings for amperes, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just over 29k miles. True mileage is unknown.

Paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, the 1,776cc side-valve four features a single Solex carburetor and produced 49 horsepower when new. According to the seller, the engine will need to be rebuilt following the failure of the #1 piston.

Additional photos showing the suspension, chassis, and driveline, as well as underbody corrosion are presented in the gallery. A walk-around of the exterior and interior is presented in the video below.
