BaT Auction: 1963 Jensen C-V8 Mk II

This 1963 Jensen C-V8 is one of 500 examples produced between 1962 and 1966 and was sold new in the UK. It was imported to the US by a previous owner and was featured on BaT in July 2011 before it was purchased by the seller in 2015. The car is finished in blue over a light blue interior, and power comes from a replacement 440ci Chrysler V8 paired with a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Service performed during the seller’s ownership reportedly included replacing braking and ignition components, fluid changes, and the installation of dual electric cooling fans. This C-V8 Mk II is now offered with service records, spare parts, car show awards, and transferable Connecticut registration in the seller’s name.

The Eric Neale-designed C-V8 featured fiberglass bodywork with aluminum door skins, and the Mk II model introduced in October 1963 featured minor styling updates. This example reportedly left the factory in Botticelli Blue and was refinished in its current blue during previous ownership in the 1970s. Features include chrome bumpers and exposed trunk hinges as well as fender-mounted mirrors. European number plates remain fitted front and rear.

The 15″ body-color steel wheels feature chrome Jensen hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with 215/70 Goodyear Integrity tires. Replacement rear disc brakes, rotors, calipers, and lines were reportedly installed approximately 300 miles ago, and Armstrong Selectaride electronically adjustable rear dampers were standard equipment on Mk II cars.

The right-hand-drive cabin is trimmed in light blue leather upholstery with gray carpets and piping. Jensen-branded lap belts are fitted up front, and the control for the adjustable dampers is mounted atop the transmission tunnel.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts wood dash panels and Jaeger and Lucas instrumentation including a tachometer with a 5,200-rpm redline, a 160-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. Just over 52k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 1k of which were added by the seller over five years of ownership.

The factory 361ci Chrysler V8 was reportedly replaced with a 440ci unit sourced from a 1972 Interceptor while still in the UK according to the seller. A pair of electric cooling fans are fitted, and a tune-up was performed in 2018 along with the installation of new spark plugs, wires, and a distributor cap. Finned Jensen valve covers are included in the sale along with other spare parts that can be seen in the gallery below. Footage taken with the hood raised can be seen here.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Chrysler-sourced TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. Additional underside photos are viewable in the gallery below. Start-up, interior and exterior walkaround, and driving videos are viewable below.
