BaT Auction: 1965 Porsche 356C

This 1965 Porsche 356C was built on July 6, 1964 and acquired by the seller in New Mexico as a project in 2014. Subsequent refurbishment included a bare-metal repaint in Irish Green, a reupholstered gray leatherette interior, re-chromed trim, an overhaul of the brakes, and more. The replacement flat-four was reportedly rebuilt with 1,720cc pistons and cylinders, and the four-speed manual transaxle is also said to have been refreshed with replacement bearings and synchros. Additional equipment includes polished wheel caps with colored crests, Sachs shocks, and a push-button radio. This 356C is now offered with an owner’s manual, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a Kardex, a factory jack, refurbishment photos, and a clean New Mexico title in the seller’s name.

Previously finished in black, the body was stripped to bare metal and received a single-stage repaint in Irish Green. The exterior trim was reportedly re-chromed at this time, the front headlight assemblies were refurbished, and the glass, front turn signals, and taillights were replaced. Features include twin engine cover grilles, a single side mirror, rear reflectors, and body-colored bumpers with chrome guards.

Factory 15″ steel wheels were reportedly re-chromed and wear polished caps with colored center crests along with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The brake system was reportedly refreshed during the refurbishment, and Sachs shocks were also fitted.

The cabin features bucket seats reupholstered in gray leatherette sourced from Autos International, along with matching door panels and replacement squareweave carpets. The body-colored dashboard houses gauges, lighting and ventilation controls, a locking glovebox, and a push-button radio.

A refurbished three-spoke steering wheel fronts chrome-ringed VDO gauges that are said to have been rebuilt by Mo-Ma Manufacturing of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The five-digit odometer reportedly shows 75k miles, approximately 950 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The replacement flat-four is said to have been rebuilt and fitted with 1,720cc pistons and cylinders during the refurbishment. The Zenith carburetors were reportedly overhauled by 356 Carburetor Rescue of Sedona, Arizona at this time, while the four-speed manual transaxle was refreshed with replacement bearings, synchronizers, and seals.
