This 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ47 is a hardtop troop carrier model that reportedly spent its life in Australia and was imported to the US by the seller in 2020. A refurbishment has since been performed, including a repaint in white, a refreshed interior, and a conversion to left-hand drive. The 4.0-liter diesel inline-six was reportedly overhauled, and the four-speed manual gearbox is said to have been fitted with a replacement clutch. Additional equipment includes a two-speed transfer case, locking front hubs, inward-facing rear jump seats, and Sunraysia wheels. This HJ47 Land Cruiser is now being offered with a handful of photos from the refurbishment and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The longer HJ47 version of the 40-Series Land Cruiser rode on a 104.9-inch wheelbase, and the body on this example is said to have received rust repair prior to a repaint in white. The trim, door handles, side-view mirrors, head lights, and turn signals have been replaced per the seller.
The white-painted 15” Sunraysia wheels are wrapped in white-letter Bridgestone Dueler M/T tires sized 31×10.5”. The four-wheel drum brakes are said to have been overhauled, and the front axle is equipped with manually-locking hubs.
The cabin was converted to left-hand drive during the refurbishment. The front seats were reportedly sourced from a Toyota Corolla, reupholstered in gray vinyl, and modified to resemble the factory items. Additional features include gray vinyl-covered floors, matching door panels, and replacement interior lights. The seller notes that the truck is not equipped with a heater or A/C.
A black three-spoke steering wheel frames a stock instrument cluster housing a 160-km/h speedometer and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit mechanical odometer was reset during the refurbishment and shows just under 40 kilometers (~29 miles). Total mileage is unknown.
The rear storage area features a gray vinyl-lined floor and two rows of folding bench seats offering space for up to 8 passengers.
The 4.0-liter 2H diesel inline-six is said to have been rebuilt with replacement pistons and gaskets, while the four-speed manual transmission has reportedly been refreshed and fitted with a replacement clutch. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a two-speed transfer case.
