This 1989 Saleen Mustang is one of approximately 100 Saleen models ordered by John Bleakley Ford of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and fitted with the Bleakley “Impressor” performance package between 1987 and 1990. This example was fitted with the Stage II Impressor package, which specified a deleted intake silencer, a K&N air filter, Walker DynoMax mufflers, a 160-degree thermostat, a 65mm throttle body, 1.72-ratio roller rocker arms, larger rear tires, Champion spark plug wires, and an SSC-style roll bar. The car is finished in Oxford White over a Medium Grey cloth interior and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. It was first registered in Tennessee and later resided in Virginia, South Carolina, and California before the seller purchased it in 2004. Additional modifications and equipment include 17″ Cobra-style wheels, a Griggs rear suspension package, Maximum Motorsports subframe connectors, caster/camber plates, Koni double-adjustable coilovers, Baer Brakes rotors and calipers, and an MSD ignition controller. This Saleen Impressor Stage II is now offered with its window sticker, Bleakley Ford and Saleen literature, service records, R134a retrofit and air conditioning overhaul components, a pair of wiper arms, its removed front spindles, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The body was refinished in Oxford white during current ownership, and replacement Saleen graphics from Performance Autosport of Richmond, Virginia, were installed. Saleen modifications included a rear spoiler, rocker extensions, and revised front and rear fascias compared with the contemporary Mustang LX. The seller states that the body side moldings were replaced and the window moldings were refinished in black at the time of the repaint.
2003 Mustang Cobra replica 17″ wheels are wrapped in 245/45 Firestone Firehawk tires, and braking is handled by slotted and ventilated four-wheel Baer Brakes discs and calipers. Additional modifications include Koni double-adjustable coilovers, Maximum Motorsports subframe connectors, Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates, a 15:1 steering gear with a Flaming River steering shaft, and a Griggs Racing torque-arm rear suspension kit. The seller states that the front spindles have been replaced, and the factory items will accompany the car.
The interior features bucket seats trimmed in two-tone Medium Grey cloth upholstery with red accents, gray carpets, embroidered Saleen patches on the door panels, and Saleen-branded floor mats. The Saleen/Bleakley Impressor Stage II package included a two-point roll bar behind the seats, and amenities include power windows, cruise control, an aftermarket dual cupholder, and an Alpine CD stereo with auxiliary input, aftermarket speakers, and a subwoofer. Additional equipment includes silver-painted door handles as well as stainless lock rods, window switches, and door handle covers. The seller notes that the air conditioning does not work and that an uninstalled R134a retrofit assembly with a replacement compressor, condenser, hoses, evaporator, and heater core will accompany the car.
Saleen-branded instrumentation consists of a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added by the seller since 2004.
The Bleakley Ford/Saleen Impressor Stage II package included high-flow exhaust headers, polished valve covers, 1.72-ratio roller rocker arms, and an upgraded air intake with a K&N air filter for the 5.0-liter V8. Additional modifications on this example include a BBK cold air intake kit, an adjustable fuel-pressure regulator, polyurethane engine and transmission mounts, an MSD Digital 6AL ignition control module, an MSD ignition coil, underdrive accessory pulleys, an SN95-style alternator, a police-spec Ford Motorsport fan clutch, blue coolant hoses, and a Fluidyne aluminum radiator.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lock rear differential. According to the seller, maintenance during current ownership included installing a Ford Motorsport clutch, a Ford Motorsport flywheel, and a replacement pilot bearing and bearing retainer. Equipment includes an aftermarket billet clutch quadrant, a Griggs aluminum driveshaft, heavy-duty axle shafts, and a custom dual-exhaust system with an X-pipe.
The window sticker lists factory colors and options shows a total price of $27,900.00 when new. It indicates an original sale to John Bleakley Ford of Lithia Springs, Georgia, with shipping to Saleen Autosport of Anaheim, California.
The Carfax report shows registration history in Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, and California, and indicates no accidents or other damage. A mileage inconsistency is noted in June 2019.
