This 1990 BMW M3 is finished in Brilliant Red over tan leather and powered by a 2.3-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the seller’s father in 2011, and work performed during current ownership consisted of a repaint of the hood and rear spoiler, replacement of the spark plugs, fuel filter, and battery, a recharge of the air conditioning system using R134a refrigerant, and installation of new tires in August 2020. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, front and rear spoilers, a sunroof, air conditioning, cruise control, an onboard computer, and a cassette stereo from a later BMW model. This E30 M3 is offered on behalf of his father’s estate with a car cover, a battery maintainer, wheel lock keys, tools, an owner’s manual, service records from 1996 onward, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title.
The car is finished in Brillantrot (308) and features M3-specific front and rear bumper covers, side skirts, fender flares, and spoilers as well as replacement Hella H4 low-beam assemblies and a metal sunroof. The hood and rear spoiler were repainted in April 2012 by Europa Imports of Winnetka, Illinois, and the right door is believed to have been refinished by a previous owner. The seller notes both side mirrors are faded, and close-up photos of imperfections can be seen in the gallery below along with paint meter readings from multiple panels.
Replacement 15″ basketweave wheels were installed in 2011 and wear BMW center caps as well as 205/55 Yokohama Advan Felva V701 tires that were mounted in August 2020. A brake fluid flush was last performed in November 2016.
The cabin features seating trimmed in tan leather with matching carpets and door panels, a black dash, and black BMW-embossed floor mats. Amenities include electric windows, air conditioning, cruise control, and a cassette stereo from a later BMW model. The seller notes loose stitching on the driver’s seat outer back bolster, fading on the center armrest, and sagging headlining material on the inside of the sunroof panel.
VDO instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 5k miles, of which approximately 4k have been added during current ownership. The speedometer/odometer assembly was replaced at 31,897 miles in 2004 by Sandy Sansing BMW of Pensacola, Florida, and an odometer notice sticker is affixed to the left door jamb. A potential odometer rollback from May 2012 is noted on the Carfax report, and records for the instrument replacement are provided in the gallery. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.3-liter S14B23 inline-four was factory-rated at 192 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. The air conditioning system was converted to use R134a refrigerant by a previous owner and a recharge was carried out in September 2017. Additional work performed during current ownership included replacement of the spark plugs and fuel filter in 2016, and installation of a new battery in August 2020. An oil and filter change was also completed at the time of the battery installation.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Getrag G265 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller states that the shifter vibrates above 70-mph
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists the aforementioned potential odometer rollback along with history Florida and Illinois.
