BaT Auction: 27k-Mile 1991 Acura NSX

This Acura NSX is one of 607 examples imported to the US in Berlina Black over Ivory leather for the 1991 model year, and was acquired by seller from its original California owner 21 years ago. Power is from a 3.0-liter DOHC V6 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Modifications include a Comptech carbon fiber intake, exhaust header, cat-back exhaust, a bypass pipe, and adjustable sway bars, in addition to Prodrive GC-07 wheels, adjustable Koni coilovers, a Power Grip 2 clutch, a Cantrell Concepts carbon fiber NSX Type R engine cover, and more. The timing belt, clutch hose, and oil pan gasket were replaced along with the coolant and drivetrain fluids in October 2020. This NA1 NSX has been driven 24k of its 27k indicated miles under current ownership, and is now offered with manufacturer’s literature in a leather-bound case, removed stock parts, a maintenance spreadsheet, a metal key, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Berlina Black and has been fitted with an NA2 rear diffuser as well as a 1997 front lip spoiler. The front bumper cover was repainted to alleviate chips according to the seller, and a factory NSX-embroidered vinyl nose mask and car cover will be included in the sale.

Staggered Prodrive GC-07 wheels measuring 18″ out back and 17″ up front are mounted with Yokohama Neova tires. Adjustable Koni coilovers are fitted at each corner. A brake fluid flush was performed in October 2020.

The cabin is trimmed in Ivory leather with matching carpets and black NSX-branded floor mats. Amenities include four-way power-adjustable seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, a Bose cassette stereo, and power windows and mirrors. The regulator clips were replaced for both the driver and passenger-side windows according to the seller.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an 8k-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and battery voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 27k miles.

The four-cam 3.0-liter C30A V6 can be seen through a mesh and carbon fiber cover from Cantrell Concepts and features VTEC variable valve timing. An NSX Type-S coolant expansion tank has been fitted along with a Comptech air intake, exhaust header, and bypass pipe. An October 2020 service included replacement of the timing belt and oil pan gasket as well as a coolant change. The transaxle number is J4A4 –1000741, which does not fall withing the range of transaxles affected by snap ring issue according to the seller.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle, which was serviced with a new clutch hose and fluid in October 2020. Removed stock parts accompanying the car include:

  • Header, bypass pipe, and cat-back exhaust
  • Shocks and springs
  • Sway bars
  • Engine cover
  • Acura-branded Motorola phone
  • 15″ & 16″ wheels with Yokohama A022 tires
  • Stock six-disc CD changer
  • Rear diffuser
  • Spare tire and mount

The Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and shows a seatbelt recall from 1995 as well as registration history in California and New Jersey.
