This 1959 Volkswagen Type 2 is a nine-passenger, 23-window Deluxe model that was built on June 22, 1959, and sold new in Portland, Oregon. It was later reportedly refurbished by Silver Lining Restoration of Burlington, Oregon, in 2017 before being acquired by the current owner later that year. It is finished in Sealing Wax Red and Beige Gray over a gray and white vinyl interior, and power comes from a 1.2-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include features a sliding canvas sunroof, a pop-out Safari windshield, and a clock. This 23-window Samba is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment records and photos, Stiftung AutoMuseum Volkswagen certificates, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The bus received bodywork and a repaint in factory Beige Grey over Sealing Wax Red during the 2017 refurbishment and features a replacement white sliding canvas roof insert. Features include round taillights, white bumpers with corner guards, a red beltline molding stripe, and Safari pop-out windshield panels.

White 15″ steel “wide five” wheels wear chrome VW hubcaps and are mounted with 195/65 Kenda Kinetica whitewall tires. A matching spare wheel is mounted in the cabin. Rebuilds of the suspension and four-wheel drum brakes were reportedly performed during the refurbishment.

The cabin was reupholstered in factory-style two-tone gray vinyl on the seats, doors, and interior panels during the refurbishment, and a white German mohair headliner was also installed. Amenities include a dash-mounted clock, accommodations for nine across three rows of bench seats, black rubber floor coverings, two-tone side panels, and an overhead console.

The white two-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg horn button and frames a central 70-mph VDO speedometer. Just under 500 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with total mileage unknown.

The air-cooled 1.2L flat-four was rebuilt by Engine Machine Service of Englewood, California, in November 2017. Features include a Bosch distributor, a six-volt ignition coil, and a Solex carburetor. An invoice for the rebuild can be seen in the gallery below.
