BaT Auction: 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT

This 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT was built on August 31, 1965, and first sold in Cori, Italy. It was imported in 2017 to the Netherlands, where it was acquired by the seller later that year. A multi-year refurbishment was completed in 2020 that included a bare-metal repaint in white as well as a mechanical overhaul and brake and suspension work. Power comes from a 1.6-liter twin-cam four paired with a five-speed manual transmission, and modifications include Koni shocks, GTA-style adjustable control arms, an aluminum T-bar, braided brake hoses, an Imasaf exhaust, and a ceramic-coated exhaust manifold. This Sprint GT is now offered in the Netherlands on behalf of the current owner with an Italian libretto, Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo correspondence, refurbishment photos, and an Italian registration.

The 105 series coupe was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone. This example received bodywork and a bare-metal repaint in its factory Biancospino during current ownership. Features include single-piece bumpers, rear Giulia Sprint GT script, a side-view mirror, and Bertone fender badges. Photos of Sekurit glass etchings can be seen up close in the gallery below.

The 15” silver-painted steel wheels feature chrome Alfa Romeo hubcaps and are mounted with FF-rated Michelin XAS radial tires. The suspension components were refreshed during the refurbishment and reinstalled with new bushings, Koni Red shocks at all four corners, an Alfaholics aluminum T-bar, and GTA-style adjustable control arms. The four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes were overhauled and fitted with braided brake hoses. An alignment was performed in 2020, but additional suspension and brake tuning may be required according to the seller.

The seats are trimmed in red vinyl with cloth inserts and matching door panels and carpets. Features include a heater, a factory radio blanking plate, and an ashtray mounted on the transmission tunnel.

The black three-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline, a 200-km/h speedometer, and gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, water temperature, and oil temperature. Under 38k kilometers (~23k miles) are shown on the five-digit odometer, a handful of which were added since the completion of the refubishment. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 1.6-liter inline-four features twin large-top Weber 40DCOE4 carburetors. It was reportedly rebuilt in 2020 with hollow Colombo & Bariani camshafts and a ceramic-coated exhaust manifold, as well as cylinder head work performed by van Lingen in the Netherlands. Further breaking-in will be required according to the seller.

Stamping AR00536*06843 corresponds to a 1.6-liter twin-cam four from a 1966 Giulia GT Veloce or Spider Duetto.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt five-speed manual transmission and a 9/41 rear end that was overhauled during the refurbishment. An Imasaf exhaust system is fitted.

Photos documenting the work are viewable in the gallery along with Italian registration paperwork.

The Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo correspondence lists production and delivery dates as well as original paint and upholstery colors.
