This 1971 Datsun 240Z was sold new in January 1971 by Ken Keegan Imported Cars of Los Gatos, California and was kept by its original owner until 2016, and later that year the seller acquired the car out of California and relocated it to Texas. Finished in silver over black, the vehicle is powered by its numbers-matching 2.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include 14″ steel wheels with covers, dealer-installed air conditioning, a factory AM radio, and dual SU carburetors. Work performed in 2019 included brake service, adjusting the valves, and re-coring the radiator, as well as replacing the seat foam and covers, exhaust, front and rear main seals, hoses, fuel filter, clutch pilot bearing, differential seals, and more. This S30 is now offered with its window sticker, 1971 sales paperwork, its owner’s manual and warranty card, maintenance booklets, service records since new, fuel logs, a pair of blue California license plates, handwritten correspondence from the original owner, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The car was delivered new in Silver Metallic (901) with tinted glass. The original owner reportedly had the hood refinished at some point, and the paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.
Steel wheels wear Datsun-logo covers and are mounted with Hankook Optimo H724 tires. Brake-system service in July 2019 included resurfacing the front rotors, rebuilding the front calipers, as well as replacing the master cylinder, driver-side rear wheel cylinder, and rear hoses.
The black interior features high-back bucket seats, which were refreshed in July 2019 with replacement covers and foam from Classic Datsun of Vista, California. The car was optioned with dealer-installed air conditioning when new and is equipped with its factory Hitachi AM radio. The clock has stopped working.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of factory instrumentation. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles, and the seller has added approximately 500 miles.
The 2.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and delivers power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
A $13,182 service performed at SZR Pro of Houston, Texas in July 2019 included the aforementioned brake and interior work plus the following, as detailed on a four-page invoice pictured in the gallery:
- Changing the fluids (engine, transmission, clutch, differential, coolant)
- Adjusting the valves
- Replacing the front and rear main seals
- Straightening the oil-pan flanges
- Re-coring the radiator
- Replacing the water-pump bypass and other hoses
- Replacing the drive belts, fuel filter, and hood seals
- Replacing the battery and battery cables

The engine-block stamping reads 022459 and matches the number shown on the data plate affixed to the car as well as on the window sticker.

The window sticker shows factory equipment. Sales paperwork from January 1971 indicates that the car was sold new by Ken Keegan Imported Cars with dealer-installed air conditioning for a final price of $4,567.50 after tax.
Owner’s manuals, service booklets, the original owner’s maintenance notes, and numerous receipts and records including fuel logs will also accompany the car. A pair of blue California license plates and factory wheel chocks will also be included, as shown in the gallery.
