BaT Auction: 1971 Datsun 521 Pickup at No Reserve

This 1971 Datsun 521 pickup is finished in light green over green and is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a heater and a bed cap, and recent work is said to have included an oil change and the installation of replacement braking components, shocks, and clutch master cylinder. The truck has reportedly been registered in North Carolina since new, and it was acquired in 2020 by the seller. This 521 is now offered at no reserve with factory literature, spare parts, a repair manual, service records, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The truck is finished in light green, and exterior features include chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, a hitch receiver, and a bed cap that has reportedly been fitted since new. Corrosion is present on various body panels and is shown in the gallery below, along with a chip in the windshield. The seller notes evidence of paintwork on the hood and fenders.

Steel 14″ wheels wear polished hubcaps and 195/75 Sentury Touring tires that were recently installed according to the seller. Additional work performed during current ownership is said to have included the installation of replacement shocks and braking components.

The cabin features a bench seat upholstered in green vinyl with contrasting piping. The doors are trimmed in green vinyl with chrome handles, and a heater, a rubber floor liner, and a floor-mounted shifter are also present.

The black dashboard houses a Datsun-branded radio blanking plate and the glovebox. The top pad is cracked, and the wiper knob is missing. Recent work is said to have included the installation of replacement ignition and headlight switches. The two-spoke steering wheel is worn and frames factory instrumentation including a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 28k miles, 1k of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 1.6-liter L16 inline-four drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work performed during current ownership is said to have included the installation of replacement clutch cylinders and lines.
