This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was first sold by Mercedes-Benz Manhattan and was refurbished by Aventura Motors of Southampton, New York, before it was acquired by the seller in December 2016. The car is finished in silver with a blue soft top over a blue leather interior, and power comes from a fuel-injected 2.8L inline-six mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include air conditioning, a Becker Europa radio, and a Parrot Bluetooth module. This W113 is now offered in Florida with a color-matched hardtop and stand, factory books, a tool roll, refurbishment photos, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
The car received bodywork and a repaint in silver during the 2010s refurbishment, reportedly using Glasurit paint. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, a single side mirror, and dual exhaust outlets. The blue soft top was installed during the refurbishment and can be seen up close in the gallery along with photos of the removable Pagoda hardtop and glass etchings.
The 14″ steel wheels wear hubcaps with body-color centers and are mounted with 195/75 Kingstar Centum SK72 tires. The suspension was reportedly refreshed with new bushings, springs, and Bilstein shocks, while a new brake master cylinder was installed during the refurbishment along with new lines and hoses, calipers, rotors, and pads.
The cabin is said to have been refinished in blue leather sourced from GAHH Automotive along with new German square-weave carpets during the refurbishment, while the wood trim was refinished by Madera Concepts of Goleta, California. Amenities include air conditioning, a locking glovebox, an analog clock, a refurbished Becker Europa stereo with an optional electric antenna, and a Parrot Bluetooth module.
The two-spoke ivory-colored steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline and a 140-mph speedometer, along with gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. Just under 86k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 500 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and produced 168 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque when new. The cylinder head is said to have been rebuilt by Metric Motors of Holmes, New York, during the refurbishment and was installed along with a rebuilt fuel injection pump and a replacement starter, water pump, and engine mounts. The radiator was also re-cored during the refurbishment.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. A replacement exhaust system was fitted during the refurbishment along with new fuel lines.
