BaT Auction: 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60

This 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 has spent time in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Oregon and was acquired by its current owner on BaT in September 2020. The truck is finished in Silver Metallic over striped gray cloth and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual gearbox and a two-speed transfer case. A cosmetic refurbishment including a repaint was performed by the previous owner, and mechanical work performed in the last two years included rebuilding the carburetor, adjusting the valves, servicing the air conditioning system, and replacing the thermostat, drive belts, spark plugs, battery, and air cleaner plenum. Now showing 82k miles, this FJ60 is offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner in Oregon with recent receipts, an owner’s guide, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

The body was taken to bare metal and refinished in Silver Metallic (147) during previous ownership, and the trim pieces, weatherstripping, and both bumpers are said to have been replaced. Photos from the work are provided in the gallery, which also contains close-up images of the paint, trim, and glass.

Factory chrome 15″ steel wheels wear 235/75 General Grabber AT2 tires with raised white lettering. The front axle is equipped with Aisin locking hubs, and the steering knuckles were repacked and the rear wheel center caps replaced by the previous owner.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench seat trimmed in striped gray cloth with matching door panel inserts. The shift knob was replaced, and factory equipment includes air conditioning, a rear cabin heater, and an AM/FM stereo, the latter of which is said to operate intermittently. A period aftermarket stereo is said to be included with the sale.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of factory instrumentation that includes an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 4k-rpm redline, and a combination gauge. The six-digit odometer shows over 82k miles.

The carbureted 4.2-liter 2F inline-six was rated for 135 horsepower at 3,600 rpm with 210 lb-ft at 1,800 rpm when new. The carburetor was rebuilt during previous ownership, and additional work included adjusting the valves, servicing the A/C, and replacing the front main seal, thermostat, drive belts, ignition components, battery, and air cleaner plenum. The fuel tank sub-assembly was replaced n September 2020 under a Toyota recall by Lithia Toyota in Klamath Falls, Oregon. A cold-start drive video can be seen here.

Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The throwout bearing, pressure plate, and clutch disc were replaced in August 2019, and the flywheel was resurfaced at that time. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage, lists at least one open recall, and displays registration in New Mexico, Texas, Oregon, and Montana from its first update in 1991. Walk-around and overview videos are provided below.
