BaT Auction: 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6-Speed at No Reserve

This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera cabriolet is finished in black over black leather and power is provided by a 3.4-liter flat-six paired with a six-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, Sport Classic 18″ wheels, Bilstein B8 sport shocks, Eibach lowering springs, GT3 front brake cooling ducts, eight-way power-adjustable seats with driver’s position memory, and cruise control. The car reportedly spent time in Texas and California before being acquired by the seller in 2013 and subsequently relocated to Florida. This 996 cabriolet is offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records dating back to 2012, a set of Turbo Twist wheels, a hardtop stand, a wind deflector, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in black and features a body-colored removable hardtop, dual polished exhaust outlets, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. The seller notes that the front bumper has been repainted and shows rock chips. Additional blemishes including scratches on the hardtop are shown in the image gallery below, and leaking is noted from the convertible top hydraulic cylinders.

Optional Sport Classic 18″ wheels feature Porsche-crest center caps and wear General G-Max 225/40 tires up front and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 265/35 tires out back. Suspension modifications include Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach springs. Braking is provided by Porsche-branded calipers with cross-drilled rotors and GT3 front cooling ducts. A set of Turbo Twist wheels wearing an older set of tires are included in the sale.

The cabin features eight-way power-adjustable seats upholstered in black leather with matching door panels and a leather-wrapped dashboard. Coco floor mats line the footwells, and amenities include cruise control, driver’s position memory, automatic climate control, a Becker CDR-220 stereo, and a GT3-branded center console, emergency brake handle, and door sill guards.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a central tachometer and a 180-mph speedometer along with gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The seller notes that the instrument cluster was replaced, thus rendering the 92k miles shown inaccurate. Approximately 11k miles have been added under current ownership.

The 3.4-liter M96 flat-six features variable valve timing and was factory-rated at 296 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was performed and the spark plugs were replaced in December 2019 per the seller, who notes that the IMS bearing has not been replaced. A cold-start video is available here.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle. The second gear synchronizer is said to be failing. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery.

Decoding the underhood option sticker yields the following information:

Manufacturer’s literature, service records dating back to 2012, two keys, a factory tool kit, first aid kit, wind deflector, and fitted car cover accompany the vehicle.

The September 2020 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California, Texas, and Florida through the most recent entry in October 2019. A May 2014 entry after the odometer replacement indicates a mileage discrepancy.
