BaT Auction: Euro 1991 BMW M5

This 1991 BMW M5 is a European-market example that resided in Japan before being acquired by the seller in 2007 and imported to Canada. The car is finished in blue over gray and powered by a 3.6-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Features include Style 21 wheels, window sunshades, a power sunroof, and front and rear heated seats. Modification installed under current ownership consist of Bilstein shocks, an S52 timing chain tensioner, and a performance chip, and a fluid service and tune-up were completed within the last year. This E34 M5 has 82k kilometers (~51k miles) is offered in Canada with removed parts, a clean Carfax report, and transferable Ontario registration in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in Mauritius Blue Metallic (287) and features fog lights, a rear trunk spoiler, a sunroof, dark gray side skirts, a front air dam, and a rear valance. The seller notes that 3M paint protection film was installed in 2012, and paint chips and scuffs are photographed up close in the gallery below.

Staggered-width 17″ Style 21 wheels are wrapped in Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires. The driver-side wheels exhibit curb rash, and the factory self-leveling suspension has been replaced with Bilstein shocks and springs all around.

The interior features seats upholstered in light Silbergrau Nappa leather with a matching console and door panels and a leather black dash that was reportedly refurbished. Amenities include front and rear heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, a black Alcantara headliner, rear window sunshades, and BMW CD43 stereo with a DICE iPod integration kit. The Japanese anti-theft system and toll road reader strips included with the car have been left installed, and the removed factory stereo is included in the sale.

The two-tone steering wheel frames a 300-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer displays just under 82k kilometers (~51k miles), approximately 50k of which were added by the seller.

The 3.6-liter S38B36 inline-six features individual throttle bodies and has reportedly been modified with an Enhanced Automotive Technology performance chip. Service completed within the last year is said to have included installation of an S52 timing chain tensioner, a valve adjustment, replacement head and valve gaskets, and an engine tune-up. The removed factory chip is included in the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The driveshaft flex joint has been replaced.
