BaT Auction: 1934 Rolls Royce 20/25 Sedanca Drophead Coupe

This 1934 Rolls Royce 20/25 features Sedanca Drophead Coupe bodywork by H.J. Mulliner & Co. and was delivered to its first owner, a Mrs. K. Wheelock, via Rolls-Royce’s Lillie Hall, London showroom on June 1, 1934. The car reportedly remained with the original owner’s family until 1975, was imported to the US in 1978, and underwent a refurbishment that was completed in 2001. Power comes from a 3.7-liter OHV inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The car is finished in beige and brown over ivory leather upholstery and features a brown three-position soft top. This 20/25 is now offered by the selling dealer with copies of factory build documentation, a hub wrench, and a clean Florida title.

Chassis #GXB45 features aluminum body panels and two-door Sedanca Drophead Coupe coachwork designed and built by British coachbuilder H. J. Mulliner & Co. Bodywork and a repaint in its current brown and beige were reportedly performed during the 2001 refurbishment. Features include dual taillights, rear-hinged doors, a polished grille with a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and a badge bar. The brown three-position convertible top features polished landau bars and a glass rear window.

Painted wire wheels are mounted with Firestone 6.50-19 bias-ply whitewall tires, and a matching spare is fitted out back. A hub wrench is included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery. The car features a Bijur single-shot chassis lubrication system, and braking is handled by mechanical servo-assisted drums at all four corners.

The seats and door panels were reportedly retrimmed in ivory leather during the 2001 refurbishment, and brown Wilton wool carpets are fitted. Features include a polished wood dashboard and door caps as well as rear ashtrays.

The right-hand-drive controls include a right-handed shifter and handbrake lever. The four-spoke steering wheel is mounted ahead of a suite of Rolls-Royce-branded gauges. Just under 82k kilometers (~51k miles) are shown on the five-digit odometer. Total mileage is unknown.

The 20/25’s inline-six displaces 3.7-liters and utilizes a single Rolls-Royce carburetor, a cast-iron block, and an aluminum crankcase supporting the seven-bearing crankshaft. The engine is said to have been rebuilt during the 2001 refurbishment.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox.

Factory build documentation includes paperwork confirming delivery to Lillie Hall on June 1, 1934. Additional documents can be seen up close in the gallery.
