This 1953 Fiat 500 Belvedere is finished in two-tone gray with a black sliding top over a factory brown vinyl interior, and power is provided by a 596cc overhead-valve inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car was first sold in Italy, and reportedly saw limited use from new through being placed into storage in the 1970s. The seller imported the car to the US in 2003, it has since been part of his museum collection and was previously listed on BaT in 2017. In preparation for sale the seller performed an oil and filter change and replaced the battery. This Belvedere is now offered at no reserve as part of the Malamut Fiat Collection with photos of the car in Italy, a stamped inspection booklet, and a clean California title.
The Topolino wagon debuted in 1949, and was known as the Giardinetta through 1952 when the name was changed to ‘Belvedere’ in reference to the car’s long sliding roof. This example is finished in two-tone gray, and touch-ups are noted under the lip of the front bumper, on the right-rear quarter, and on the lip of the right rocker panel. The car features a sliding roof panel and white-on-black Italian plates that match the Italian registration documents provided in the gallery below, and close-up photos of the trim and finish are also provided in the gallery.
Steel 15″ wheels have been refinished with cream centers, gray lips, and wear polished Fiat-branded hubcaps. The Michelin whitewall tires have flat spots from extended periods of sitting according to the seller. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
The seats and interior panels are upholstered in factory brown vinyl, which is complemented by black rubberized floors and body-color metal surfaces. The rear bench and passenger seat fold forward, and the car is equipped with a heater and defroster. Close-up photos of the upholstery and sunroof lining are provided in the gallery, and seam separation is visible on the driver’s seat.
A bronze medallion is affixed to the two spoke steering wheel, and instrumentation includes a 110-km/h speedometer on the passenger side of the dash, with a combination fuel level and oil-pressure gauge in front of the driver. 16,500 kilometers (~10,300 miles) are shown on the five digit odometer. Mileage readings are shown in the stamped service booklet, and the seller states that an oil change sticker in the door jamb shows 15k kilometers and was performed just before the car was placed in storage.
Power is provided by a 596cc overhead-valve inline-four that was factory rated at 13 horsepower. The carburetor was rebuilt in 2017, and the car received an oil and filter change and a replacement battery in preparation for sale. Chipping is visible on painted underhood surfaces, and hoses and other rubber items show signs of age.
