BaT Auction: 1963 Fiat 500D Transformable at No Reserve

This 1963 Fiat 500D Transformable is finished in pale green with a black vinyl sliding roof panel over a green and white interior. It was reportedly refurbished in Italy by Carrozeria Gagliardo and joined the seller’s museum collection in 2013. Power is provided by an air-cooled 499cc twin paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and during current ownership the brakes were serviced and the battery was replaced. This 500D is now offered at no reserve as part of the Malamut Fiat Collection with additional paint and a clean California title.

The car has been repainted in a pale green and features rear-hinged doors. Additional equipment includes a black vinyl retractable roof panel that is secured by a brown leather strap when stowed, chrome bumpers and trim, and factory lighting with amber rear turn signals. Close-up photos of the trim and finish are provided in the gallery.

Cream colored 12″ steel wheels are fitted with factory hubcaps, and all four wheels and the matching spare are mounted with 2011 date-coded Goldentyre GT-126 whitewall tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums, and the suspension features transverse leaf springs up front and coil springs in back.

The front seats and rear bench were reupholstered in green cloth with white vinyl on the front upper backrests. Interior panels are trimmed in dark green vinyl accented by body-color metal surfaces, and the floors are protected by black rubberized mats. The folding rear seat is shown in the gallery, along with close-up photos of the trim, door retention straps, and other hardware.

A factory two-spoke steering wheel frames a metric 110-km/h speedometer with a five-digit odometer. Just under three kilometers are shown, and true mileage is unknown.

The air-cooled 499cc twin is equipped with a single carburetor. The seller states that the engine was overhauled during the refurbishment, and service during current ownership included replacement of the battery.

Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
