This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is one of 830 examples built for the model year. It was first sold by Colonial Imports of Glendale, California, and is said to have been refurbished by the son of the original owners in the 2000s before it was acquired by the current owner in 2015. Power comes from a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and the car is finished in Moss Green Metallic with a green soft top over green MB-Tex upholstery. Features include a color-matched hardtop with a heated rear window, power-assisted steering, front and rear bumper guards, air conditioning, and a Becker Europa radio. A 2019 service included a new steering gear and an oil change. This W113 is now offered on behalf of the owner with a window sticker and original sales invoice, factory books, period literature, service records from 2015 to the present, and a Washington title in the current owner’s name.
The body is finished in Moss Green Metallic (834 G) and features front and rear bumper guards, a driver-side mirror, and US-market lighting. The Dark Green soft top was a factory-installed no-cost option.
The color-matched hardtop features a heated rear window and a white headliner. Steel 14″ wheels wear color-matched covers and are mounted with 185/75 Uniroyal Tiger Paw whitewall tires. A full-size spare wheel is mounted under a cover in the trunk. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and a new steering gear was reportedly installed in 2019.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in green MB-Tex with matching door panels, dash trim, and loop carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, wood dash and center console trim, lap belts, and a Becker Europa radio.
The black two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows just under 69k miles, approximately 600 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six is equipped with Bosch multi-port fuel injection and was factory rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was last performed in 2019.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.
