This 1981 Puch 230G Cabriolet is a European-market example that is said to have remained in the Netherlands before being imported to the US where it was acquired by the seller two years ago. The truck is finished in beige over tan and is powered by a 2.3-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, two-speed transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. Equipment includes a black hardtop, 14″ steel wheels, a Stromberg carburetor, and a VDO stereo. Recent service consisted of a top-end engine refresh, rebuilding the carburetor, and overhauling the ignition system. This Puch is now offered with service records, factory literature, import documents, a soft top, and a clean Kansas title listing the vehicle as a 1981 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The truck was reportedly refinished in Colorado Beige (1470) and features a multi-piece hardtop, black bumpers, and rear mud flaps. A soft top is included in the sale.
Silver 14″ steel wheels are wrapped in Yokohama tires. A spare tire is mounted to the swing-out rear carrier. Braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket and a rear bench seats reupholstered in pattered cloth and tan vinyl. Equipment includes a heater, locking glovebox, and an aftermarket VDO stereo.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 180-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 53k kilometers (~33k miles).
The 2.3-liter inline-four received a top-end rebuild in June 2019, and additional work under current ownership has included refurbishing the Stromberg carburetor and replacing the ignition system components.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. The seller notes a noise when engaging third gear. A walk-around and driving video is provided below.
