BaT Auction: 1983 Honda XL600R at No Reserve

This 1983 Honda XL600R is powered by a 589cc four-stroke single mated to a five-speed transmission and finished in red with black number plates. Equipment consists of a Pro-Link rear end, dual Keihin carburetors, a black vinyl seat, street lighting and mirrors, a license plate bracket, and a side stand. The dual-sport motorcycle was acquired by the seller in 2018, and was most recently serviced in November 2020 with an oil change and carburetor jetting. This XL600R is offered at no reserve with an owner’s manual, a tool kit, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bike is finished in red over a matching frame and features black number plates, a license plate bracket, street lighting, a two-up seat, and a side stand.

Aluminum wire-spoke wheels wear 21″ front and 17″ rear Golden Boy dual-sport tires. Suspension consists of an air-adjustable conventional 39mm leading-axle fork as well as a Pro-link aluminum swingarm with a monoshock. Braking is from a single disc up front and a drum in the rear.

Cross-braced handlebars feature controls for the headlight, turn signals, horn, and choke on the left as well as a throttle grip and run switch on the right. Instrumentation consists of a rectangular 105-mph speedometer displaying recommended shift points and a five-digit odometer showing 9k miles, 4k of which have been ridden by the seller.

The air-cooled 589cc four-stroke single produced 45 horsepower when new and features an electronic ignition module, an overhead camshaft, and a radial four-valve cylinder head. The engine breathes through dual 28mm Keihin carburetors and a dual-port exhaust system. An oil cooler was added under previous ownership. An oil change was performed in November 2020, at which time the valves were also checked and the carburetors jetted. Power is routed to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a drive chain.

An owner’s manual and a tool kit are included in the sale. A walk-around video showing the engine running can be viewed below.
