BaT Auction: 1991 Ferrari Testarossa

This 1991 Ferrari Testarossa is a black-on-black example that is powered by a 4.9-liter flat-12 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include 16″ alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, Veglia instrumentation, Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, and a gated shifter. The car was first registered in Canada, and the current owner acquired it in 2016. Service in late 2020 consisted of flushing the brakes as well as replacing the timing belts, fuel-injector O-rings, gaskets, clutch throw-out bearing, hydraulic clutch hose, battery, and rear brake pads. This Testarossa is offered in California by the seller on behalf of its owner with an accident-free Carfax report, recent service records, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Montana title under the owner’s LLC.

Designed by Pininfarina, the Testarossa was produced from 1984 through 1991. This example is finished in Nero, and each side of the car is shown in detail in the photo gallery below.

Factory 16″ alloy wheels are mounted with Toyo Proxes R888 tires. Service in November 2020 included flushing the brakes as well as replacing the rear pads and the vacuum pump shaft.

The interior features bolstered power-adjustable seats with black leather upholstery over matching carpeting and trim. The car is equipped with a gated shifter, power windows, power seats, and a JVC CD radio.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Veglia instrumentation that includes a 320-km/h speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The odometer shows nearly 51k kilometers (~32k miles), approximately 1k kilometers of which have been added under current ownership. Three mileage inconsistencies are noted on the Carfax report: in February 1995, in July 2001, and in May 2016.

The 4,942cc Tipo F113 flat-12 features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, 48 valves, and seven main bearings. A $12,428 service at EF 1 Motorsports of Signal Hill, California in November 2020 included replacing the timing belts, gaskets, fuel-injector O-rings, coolant hoses, spark-plug wire clips, and more as shown on the three-page invoice viewable in the gallery. The battery was replaced one month prior to the engine-out service.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle, which was also serviced in November 2020 with a replacement throw-out bearing, hydraulic clutch hose, and seals for the clutch cylinders. Additional images of the underside and the suspension are presented in the gallery.

Photos taken during the engine-out service are also provided below.

A video featuring the car is provided above.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration activity in British Columbia, Ontario, Arizona, and Montana beginning in 1991. The three aforementioned documented mileage inconsistencies are also noted.
