BaT Auction: 2UZ V8-Powered 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55

This 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 is finished in two-tone blue and white and sits atop an FJ80 chassis, including the suspension, steering and brakes, with power provided by an FJ100-sourced 2UZ V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Equipment includes three locking differentials, a Warn winch, tinted windows, a trailer hitch receiver, Old Man Emu stock-height coil springs, a RedHead steering gearbox, Delta Vehicle Systems radius arms, air conditioning, cruise control, and an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth and USB inputs. The truck is said to have resided in Southern California until approximately 2010, when it was relocated to Florida by the seller’s friend and subsequently acquired by the seller five years ago. Work performed during current ownership included a new timing belt and water pump as well as replacement of the alternator, air-conditioning compressor, coil packs, valve cover gaskets, shocks, and suspension bushings, in addition to fluid changes. This FJ55 is now offered with a factory rear seat, a custom rear sleeping platform, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The truck is finished in two-tone blue and white and features steel front and rear bumpers, a Warn winch, dual side-view mirrors, tinted windows, and a trailer hitch receiver. Wear is visible in the paint, and scratches, dents, and dings are present around the exterior. The seller states that rust is present on various surfaces, the driver’s door needs to be re-keyed, and the crank windows are stiff due to older window seals.

Black-finished 16″ steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and 255/85 BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 tires. The FJ80-sourced chassis is fitted with replacement Toyota radius arm bushings and Tokico dampers, along with Delta Vehicle Systems radius arms, Old Man Emu stock-height coil springs, and a RedHead power steering gearbox.

The front seats, console, shifter, and parking brake are sourced from an FJ80, and the seats are trimmed in tan fabric and wear aftermarket full covers, which are contrasted by black door panels, carpets, and interior plastics. The black vinyl-covered rear bench seat folds to create a flat load floor, which is shown in the gallery below. Amenities include a heater, air conditioning fitted with a new compressor, cruise control, and an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth and USB inputs.

The factory three-spoke steering wheel frames an FJ80 instrument cluster with a tachometer, a 130-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level, and the locker control and cruise control switches are also FJ80 components. The six-digit odometer shows 222k miles, approximately 35k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE V8 is said to be from a 100-series Land Cruiser and received a replacement alternator, timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, coil packs, and fluids during current ownership.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case, and the powertrain features three locking differentials. The axles and steering knuckles were serviced during 2020, and additional underside photos are presented in the gallery below.
