BaT Auction: Chevrolet Corvette SCCA GT1 Race Car at No Reserve

This Chevrolet Corvette is a custom tube-frame race car equipped with a C5-style fiberglass body, and it was built for SCCA GT1 competition and was driven by John Heinricy for the Exsys-Eppinger team between 2015 and 2017. Power is provided by an Advanced Engine Concepts 358ci V8 paired with a SAENZ five-speed sequential transmission, and features include a front splitter, plexiglass front and rear windows, an adjustable rear spoiler, a roll cage, an onboard fire-suppression system, and a Kirkey Racing seat. Additional equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes with a brake bias adjustment knob, multi-piece BBS racing wheels, and a pushrod-style suspension system with inboard adjustable coilovers. Spare parts that will accompany the car include a Hewland ST-030 gearbox assembly, an assortment of spare transmission gears, spare clutch discs, a spare bellhousing, and additional wheel hoops and centers, and the battery and fluids were replaced in preparation for the sale. This Corvette GT1 race car is now offered by the selling dealer in Virginia on behalf of the charitable organization Racing For Heroes with a bill of sale.

The fiberglass body features removable front and rear sections, and it is finished in white and blue with gray and reflective chrome-style stripes. Equipment includes a front splitter, a plexiglass windshield and rear window, an adjustable rear wing, and sponsor decals. The front splitter is broken, and marks from track use are visible and shown in the gallery below.

The body is fitted over a Rich Sloma-built custom tube chassis with an integrated roll cage. Staggered-width 16″ BBS three-piece wheels feature gold centers and are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle racing slicks. Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs, and a brake bias adjustment knob is mounted on the dashboard. The pushrod suspension system utilizes heim links and inboard adjustable coilovers at all four corners, and steering is via a power-assisted rack-and-pinion setup.

The interior is fitted with a Kirkey Racing fixed-back driver’s seat upholstered in black, a matching black harness, and a red left-side window net. An onboard fire-suppression system is fitted along with a battery cut-out switch on the dashboard panel.

The steering wheel with a quick-release hub fronts an AutoMeter 10k-rpm tachometer with memory function. A Geartronics gear indicator display is fitted to the switch panel, and a DL1 Club data logger is mounted on the right side of the dashboard.

The 358ci Chevrolet V8 is said to have been sourced from Advanced Engine Concepts in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, and it features a 4.189″ bore, a 3.25″ stroke, and a compression ratio of 14.5:1, along with Chevrolet Performance SB2.2 cylinder heads, Carillo connecting rods, a Bryant Racing crankshaft, a high-rise intake manifold, and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. In preparation for the sale, the battery was replaced and fluids were changed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a SAENZ 358-series sequential five-speed manual transmission and a rear differential with an external differential oil cooler.

A Hewland ST-030 gearbox, additional gearsets, clutch discs, brake pads, a spare bell housing, and spare wheels and wheel parts are included in the sale.
