BaT Auction: Westfield XI

This Westfield Eleven was reportedly delivered as a kit to the previous owner in 2005 and was purchased as a stalled project by the seller in 2015. The seller delivered the kit to Derrick Walker Racing in Indianapolis, Indiana, where the majority of the build was completed before the seller finished the assembly in 2016. The car is finished in British Racing Green with Lotus Yellow accents over a red vinyl interior, and power is provided by a Seven Enterprises-built 1,360cc BMC inline-four paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Equipment includes a plexiglass windscreen, fiberglass bodywork with removable front and rear body sections, a quick-release steering wheel, ETB gauges, four-wheel disc brakes, Spax adjustable coilovers, an MG Midget rack-and-pinion assembly, and yellow 15″ Minilite wheels. This Westfield Lotus Eleven replica is now offered in California with a tonneau cover, Westfield assembly and wiring manuals, a rear disc brake setup manual, a collection of spare parts, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 2016 Assembled Westfield II.

The Westfield XI kit consists of fiberglass body panels over a square tube chassis with aluminum floor panels. This example was finished in British Racing Green with Lotus Yellow accents and white roundels, and it was assembled by Walker Racing in Indianapolis, Indiana. According to the seller, the frame was powder-coated gray during the build, and the floor panels were attached using structural adhesive and rivets. Features include a plexiglass windshield and covered headlamps, and the bonnet and rear boot sections can be folded or removed for access. A scratch is noted on the hood.

15×5.5″ front and 15×6″ rear Minilite wheels are powder-coated in Lotus Yellow and wear Dunlop Racing tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel solid discs with rear handbrake provisions, and steering is via a rebuilt MG Midget rack-and-pinion assembly. The suspension features double wishbones with an anti-sway bar at the front, a five-link setup with dual trailing arms on each side and an adjustable Panhard rod at the rear, and adjustable Spax Performance coilovers at all four corners. The seller notes tire rubbing at the front and the rear, and suggests longer rear-wheel studs, rear wheel spacers, and rack-and-pinion limiters at the front before extended driving.

The cockpit features a split bench with red vinyl upholstery, red carpets, and red wrinkle-finish paint on the aluminum dash face. Equipment includes a LeMans-style driver’s headrest pad, Westfield harnesses, a custom hardwood shift knob with a Lotus insignia, a custom-fabricated center switch panel, a quick-release steering wheel, and a polished handbrake handle that was moved to the passenger side of the transmission tunnel during the build. A rear-view mirror for the dash top will accompany the car.

White ETB instrumentation consists of a central 180-mph reverse-sweep speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer flanked by gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and battery voltage. The digital odometer currently shows just 2 miles. The seller estimates that the car has driven approximately 20 miles since assembly was completed.

The BMC A-series inline-four was built to displace 1,360cc by Seven Enterprises of Auburn, California, and features include forged pistons, a ported cylinder head with hardened valve seats, a Mangoletsi intake manifold, a Weber 45 DCOE carburetor, a Westfield Sportscars exhaust header, and electronic ignition. Additional equipment includes an aluminum radiator, a SPAL electric cooling fan, a 22-liter fuel tank, and an electric fuel pump.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ford Mk 9 five-speed manual transmission and an MG Midget-sourced 3.9:1 rear differential. The seller notes that some additional sorting may be required, and recommends checking all fasteners before any significant driving.

According to the seller, spare parts that will accompany the car include a tonneau cover and cover fasteners, Lotus and Westfield emblems, a manifold gasket, a length of soft fuel hose, an oil filter, a rear transmission mount, throttle cables, exhaust clamps, a muffler baffle, a fuel tank filler tube, battery cables, a Westfield-branded gearshift knob, braided brake and clutch lines, two dash-mount rearview mirrors, a clutch friction plate, an alternator drive belt, a set of wheel spacers, a transmission gasket, pedal box gaskets, red vinyl upholstery material, red carpet, headlight covers, a clutch plate alignment tool, and a weatherstripping set.
