BaT Auction: 1960 Porsche 356B 1600S Cabriolet

This 1960 Porsche 356B 1600S is a T5 Reutter cabriolet that was acquired by the current owner in 2013 and was subsequently refurbished. Work included refinishing the car in its factory Silver Metallic over green leather and installing tan square weave carpets. Power is provided by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, 15” ventilated steel wheels, front disc brakes, Koni shocks, and a Blaupunkt AM radio. This 356B cabriolet is now offered on behalf of the current owner with records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a tool kit, and a clean West Virginia title.

The car was repainted in red during previous ownership and was refinished in its factory Silver Metallic during the 2013 refurbishment. Equipment includes a replacement black soft top, body-color bumpers, a Ponto-style driver-side mirror, and a Reutter fender badge.

Chrome 15” ventilated steel wheels wear Porsche-crest hubcaps and are wrapped in Michelin XZX tires. Koni dampers are fitted all around, and the front brakes have been converted to discs. The brake master cylinder and lines were reportedly replaced in 2013.

The seats, dash pad, and door panels have been reupholstered in the original green leather, and tan square weave carpets were also fitted. Additional equipment includes rubber mats, a wood shift knob, a locking glove box, an electric clock, and a Blaupunkt AM radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames green-letter VDO instrumentation including a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 64k miles, 700 of which were added by the current owner. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four was sourced from a Super 90 and is equipped with twin Solex carburetors topped by Knecht air cleaners.

The engine serial number *802094* is depicted above, and photos of two Porsche Certificates of Authenticity are provided in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery, and a walk-around video featuring driving footage is provided below.
