This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE is one of 3,797 coupes produced between 1967 and 1971 and is finished in Silver Grey Metallic over a red interior. Power is provided by a fuel-injected 2.8L inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and features include aftermarket driving lamps, power windows, Behr air conditioning, and a Becker Grand Prix radio. The original owner reportedly picked the car up in Germany and it is then said to have remained in California until its acquisition by the selling dealer in October 2019. This 280SE coupe is now offered in Mount Vernon, Washington, with factory books, service records, a binder of handwritten maintenance notes, and a clean Washington title.
The exterior was repainted in the original Silver Grey Metallic during previous ownership and features US-market lighting, an aftermarket grille guard and driving lamps, rear bumperettes, and chrome wheel arch and rocker trim. A paint crack is noted on the left side of the hood, and chips are present on the handle-side edge of the left door.
The 14″ wheels feature polished covers with body-color centers and wear Michelin tires. Braking is from discs at all four corners.
The interior is upholstered in red leather with matching carpets and door cards. Features include wood dashboard trim, a floor-mounted shifter with a chrome bezel, Behr air conditioning, a Becker Grand Prix radio, and power windows. The selling dealer notes that the inner seat padding was replaced during previous ownership.
The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel features a Mercedes star horn button and fronts a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 250 of which were added by the selling dealer. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter inline-six produced 158 horsepower when new and features Bosch fuel injection. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. An oil change was recently performed.
