BaT Auction: 1972 Jaguar XKE Roadster V12 4-Speed

This 1972 Jaguar XKE Roadster V12 was acquired by the late-owner in 1989 and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in silver over a dark blue leather interior, and equipment includes a black hardtop, black vinyl soft top, quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, wind wings, chrome 15″ wire wheels, and an AM/FM radio. An oil change was carried out in anticipation of the sale. This XKE Roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Kansas title.

The car is finished in silver and fitted with a contrasting black hardtop that is depicted above. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, a black soft top, aftermarket wind wings, V12 badging, and quad exhaust outlets. Rust bubbles are present on the right rear fender, and additional finish flaws are highlighted in the gallery below.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear older Michelin Wide X Radial tires. The four-wheel independent suspension incorporates torsion bars up front and coil springs out back, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs with the rear set mounted inboard.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in dark blue leather with a matching center armrest, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, a British Leyland AM/FM radio, and an AMCO shift knob and rubber floor mats. Wear is noted on the seats.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and centrally mounted gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 features a single overhead camshaft per cylinder bank and is fitted with four Zenith-Stromberg sidedraft carburetors. An oil change was carried out in anticipation of the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the clutch slips, and a replacement clutch is included in the sale. Additional photos of the underbody, suspension, and exhaust are viewable below.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and powertrain numbers and shows delivery to British Leyland in New York, and a March 24, 1972 date of manufacture.
