BaT Auction: 27k-Mile 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 M-B Guard Special Protection Vehicle

This 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 is finished in black over matching leather and powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes the M-B Guard Special Protection Vehicle package, which added ballistics-grade polycarbonate glass and high-strength steel body components, B4 certified occupant protection, an armored floor, roof and firewall, and a self-sealing fuel tank. Additional equipment consists of a two-way intercom system, heated and power-adjustable front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear window shades, Parktronic, and an upgraded audio system. This W220 has 27k miles and is offered on behalf of the original owner with service records, factory literature, a window sticker, a Carfax report, and a California title.

The exterior is finished in black (040) and features xenon headlamps with washers, front and rear parking sensors, soft-close doors that open to nearly 90-degrees, and a power trunk lid, which does not work. The car is equipped with the M-B Guard Special Protection Vehicle package, which was certified for B4 occupant protection and includes ballistics-grade polycarbonate glass and high-strength steel body components. Additional armor is said to include a ballistic-composite floor and a steel roof. The Carfax report notes “minor damage” to the rear of the car in June 2013. Photos of paint meter readings are provided in the gallery below.

Factory 17″ alloy wheels wear Continental ContiProContact SSR run-flat tires. The M-B Guard Special Protection Vehicle package added armored wheel wells, a reinforced rear suspension, and the car is equipped with upgraded disc brakes measuring 345mm up front and 315mm out back.

The cabin features seats upholstered in Charcoal Nappa leather with matching door panels and carpets joined by wood trim on the doors, steering wheel, dashboard, and center console. Equipment includes heated and power-adjustable front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear window roller blinds, a glovebox-mounted two-way intercom system, and a Pioneer stereo with a custom audio system and rearview camera. The seller notes that some of the buttons are sticky.

The power-adjustable steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer shows 27k miles.

The M113 5.0-liter V8 was factory-rated at 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The M-B Guard Special Protection Vehicle package added an armored firewall and a self-sealing fuel tank.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.

The window sticker shows colors and equipment as well as a total retail price of $177,470.

The Carfax report shows the aforementioned damage in 2013 and history in California and Montana. Three owners are listed, although the seller notes that this is the result of the owner registering the vehicle under his name and business entities.
