This 2019 McLaren Senna is one of 500 examples produced to commemorate driver Ayrton Senna’s success with the McLaren Formula 1 team from 1988 to 1993, during which Senna placed first in 35 races and won three Drivers’ Championship titles. The car utilizes a carbon-fiber monocoque and is finished in pearlescent MSO Sorcerer’s Black with gold accents over a matching interior, and Merlin-script accents reside on the wing endplates and headrests in addition to an airbrushed wizard depicting Merlin on the driver-side doorsill. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle. Other performance equipment includes active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, staggered-size center-locking wheels, a RaceActive Chassis Control II hydraulic suspension, adjustable driving modes, and driver aids. The car is also equipped with dual-zone climate control, Bowers & Wilkins audio, Bluetooth, navigation, and touchscreen infotainment. The vehicle was acquired new by the current owner and now shows just over 600 miles. This “Merlin” McLaren Senna is offered on dealership consignment in California with a copy of its window sticker, records for paint-protection work, two themed keys, and a clean Montana title under the owner’s LLC.
The Senna was designed under the direction of McLaren Automotive’s Rob Melville and utilizes the carmaker’s MonoCage III carbon-fiber monocoque platform for a minimum US-spec curb weight of 2,897 pounds with fluids and fuel. The coupe is capable of generating 1,764 pounds of downforce at 155 mph, and active aerodynamic bodywork helps maintain that level of downforce through to the car’s manufacturer-claimed top speed of 211 mph.
This example is finished in a bespoke McLaren Special Operations color, developed by Darren “Merlin” Townsend, who is MSO’s bespoke paint principal. The Sorcerer Black paintwork features a pearlescent sparkle visible in certain lighting, and gold pinstriping added by the factory accentuates the body lines. Gold-finished wing endplates with Merlin script and other unique details pay further tribute to Townsend. Receipts pictured in the gallery indicate that $12,595 was spent in 2019 to polish the car as well as to apply an Xpel protective film to the bodywork and a ClearPlex skin to the windshield.
Lightweight 19×8″ front and 20×10″ rear forged-alloy wheels are finished in gloss black and are mounted with body-matching center locks. The wheels wear 245/35ZR-19 and 315/30ZR-20 Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. Gold-finished six- and four-piston aluminum monobloc brake calipers are paired with 390mm x 34mm carbon-ceramic rotors front and rear. The car is also equipped with RaceActive Chassis Control II, adjustable damping and roll modes, multiple stability-control modes, Variable Drift Control, Brake Steer, and launch control.
Twin-hinge dihedral doors expose a black interior that features carbon-fiber bucket seats with Alcantara upholstery and gold Merlin embroidery on the headrests, which added $4,390 to the sticker price. The exposed carbon-fiber shell is gloss-finished, the dashboard has gold accents to match the exterior, and carpeted mats cover the floors. Amenities include dual-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and a portrait-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth and satellite-radio connectivity as well as navigation.
The steering wheel is trimmed in carbon fiber and Alcantara, and it sits ahead of paddle shifters as well as a configurable digital display that folds flat to expose a simplified digital tachometer, gear indicator, and speedometer. The digital odometer shows just over 600 miles.
The driver-side doorsill has been airbrushed with a wizard wearing purple robes with McLaren-logo details, depicting Merlin casting a spell in the shape of Ayrton Senna’s home track, Interlagos in São Paulo, Brazil. The throttle pedal features etchings of crescent moons and stars. A nearby plaque indicates that this car is number 401 of 500 produced.
The Senna utilizes a modified version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 in the 720S, codenamed M840TR in this application. Output was rated for 789 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 590 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm, which is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch SSG automatic transaxle.
SLiPLO skid-plate pieces have been installed beneath the front fascia. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery, and the video linked here features the same area of the car.
This car was exhibited at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in California in 2019 and appeared at Senna Fest later that year at Circuit of the Americas in Texas. It also was featured in a 2020 Hoonigan video, in which it was raced against Ken Block’s “Hoonicorn” Ford Mustang.
A copy of the window sticker shows standard equipment, selected factory options, delivery to McLaren San Francisco in Palo Alto, California, and a total retail price of $1,144,233.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration activity with a single owner in Montana.
