BaT Auction: Modified 1974 Honda CB360 at No Reserve

This 1974 Honda CB360 underwent a refurbishment and modification prior to its acquisition by the seller in mid-2020. Work included rebuilding the 356cc OHC parallel twin and the six-speed manual transmission along with repainting the frame, removing the side covers and front fender, and installing aftermarket mufflers, suspension, rims, knobby tires, and a larger-than-stock Honda fuel tank. Since that time, a replacement wiring harness and street lighting have been installed, and the carburetors were cleaned in preparation for the sale. This CB360 is now offered at no reserve with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The fuel tank from a 1973 CB350G is finished in Candy Orange with black and white stripes over a half-duplex cradle frame refinished in black during previous ownership. The black vinyl saddle sits ahead of a chrome rear fender and seats two; other passenger accommodations include a grab strap and folding foot pegs. Both side covers and the front fender have been removed, and a support bracket with a splash guard has been installed up front. A replacement wiring harness and full street lighting—including an aftermarket headlight, taillight, and low-profile turn indicators—were installed by the seller. Both the headlight and the taillight are equipped with running-light toggle switches. A walk-around video has been provided by the seller.

Giant-brand rims measuring 18″ at both ends are finished in black, laced to black hubs with matching spokes, and mounted with Kenda knobby tube tires showing 2015 date codes. Replacement suspension components from Norco include black front fork lowers and rear shocks with black coilover springs. Braking is provided by a front disc and a rear drum.

A 140-mph speedometer and a 12k-rpm tachometer flank status lights for high beam, turn signals, and neutral, the last of which does not come on. The five-digit odometer shows just over 100 miles, all added by the seller, and true mileage is unknown. A demonstration of the taillight and turn signals is linked in this video.

The rebuilt 356cc OHC parallel twin is equipped with a pair of Mikuni VM30 carburetors in place of the factory Keihins. Exposed clamp-on air filters have been added, and a two-in-one regulator/rectifier replaces the separate factory components. Spent gases exit by way of heat-wrapped head pipes flowing into a pair of aftermarket chrome mufflers mounted low and one to a side. The electric starter is disconnected at present, and the carburetors were installed in February 2021. The seller reports that the engine idles fast on start-up, as shown in the video linked here.

When the engine was rebuilt, modifications were made to address known lubrication/failure issues with the camshaft bearing and camshaft chain tensioner. Additional photos of the open cylinder-head cover are provided in the gallery below.

Power is transferred through a rebuilt six-speed manual transmission and a chain final drive. The motorcycle is equipped with both center and side stands.

A narrated walk-around video is presented above, and several ride-by clips can be viewed below.
