BaT Auction: One-Owner 22k-Mile 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata at No Reserve

This 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata was originally ordered from Scot Sport Motors of Bennington, Vermont by the seller and has been registered in Massachusetts and Georgia since new. The car is finished in red over black cloth, and power is supplied by a 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a replacement black soft top, 14″ alloy wheels, air conditioning, power steering, and a factory cassette stereo. This NA Miata shows 22k miles and is offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title in the name of the seller’s wife.

The body is finished in Classic Red and features a replacement black soft top with a matching boot cover, color-keyed bumper covers and mirrors, and pop-up headlights that are shown in the raised position in the photo gallery below. Noted blemishes include a dent in the passenger-side door, a touch-up on the rear bumper, and a paint chip on the hood.

Factory 14″ “daisy” alloy wheels are wrapped in Kumho Solus KR21 tires showing 2006 date codes. The car is equipped with power steering along with four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension featuring front and rear stabilizer bars and gas-filled shocks. Curb rash is visible on the wheels.

The cockpit features black cloth seats with matching door panels, carpets, and Miata-branded floor mats. Amenities include air conditioning, locking center console storage, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. Chrome sill plates and a protective plastic panel mounted on the inside left of the trunk have been added. The air conditioning was converted to use R134a refrigerant in 2011 but does not blow cold.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts an instrument pod housing an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and a trio of auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer shows just under 22k miles.

The 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four is equipped with electronic fuel injection and a tubular exhaust header flowing into a sport-tuned stainless-steel exhaust system. The engine was rated at 116 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil change was performed in June 2020.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a short-throw five-speed manual transmission and a factory limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery.

The window sticker shows delivery to Scot Sport Motors in Bennington, Vermont, along with factory colors and equipment and a total price of $17,904.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration in Massachusetts and Georgia from new through the most recent entry in June 2020.
