BaT Auction: 1974 BMW 2002tii 5-Speed

This 1974 BMW 2002tii is finished in Verona Red over black upholstery and is powered by an overbored 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car was featured on BaT in January 2014 and was acquired shortly thereafter by the seller, who has since added approximately 4k miles. Equipment includes 13″ alloy wheels, driving lights, a sunroof, a Blaupunkt CD stereo, and an aftermarket sound system. Service during current ownership included replacing the tires and a recent oil change. This 2002tii is now offered with service records since 1994 and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

This square-taillight example is said to have previously been finished in Sienna Brown and received bodywork prior to being refinished in Verona Red during a refurbishment completed approximately 19 years ago. Equipment includes front driving lights with Hella covers, European-market bumpers, shaved side markers, a single exhaust outlet, a removable orange windshield graphic, and polished side mirrors and window surrounds. Dents and other imperfections are noted.

13″ alloy wheels are fitted with 185/70 Kumho Solus TA11 tires showing 2020 date codes at each corner. Rear Bilstein shocks were added during previous ownership.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black over gray carpeting. Replacement door panels and a European-market dashboard were added during the refurbishment. Interior amenities include a Blaupunkt Nevada CD stereo with a body-color faceplate as well as an aftermarket sound system, an Alpina shift knob, and a sunroof. The seller notes that the rear headliner sags when closing the sunroof.

The leather-wrapped Alpina steering wheel fronts replacement VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer was replaced during the refurbishment and now shows 8k miles, approximately 4k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel-level gauge reportedly works intermittently when the tank is less than a quarter full.

The front-hinged hood covers the fuel-injected 2.0L M10 inline-four, which was reportedly overbored and fitted with oversized pistons during previous ownership. The seller notes that the oil was changed in preparation for the sale, and the engine is said to require throttle to maintain idle when warming up.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission, which was reportedly sourced from a BMW 320i.
