BaT Auction: 1985 Toyota Pickup 4×4 Xtra Cab 5-Speed

This 1985 Toyota Pickup is an extended-cab 4×4 example that has been registered in California since 1991, and was refurbished in the style of Marty McFly’s truck from the film Back to the Future following the seller’s 2015 purchase. The truck is said to have been repainted in black over gray, and the replacement 2.4-liter 22RE inline-four is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional modifications include tubular bumpers, a suspension lift, a roll bar, auxiliary lights, aftermarket 15″ wheels, and an Alpine CD stereo. This Toyota Pickup is offered with a Carfax report, a Statler Toyota banner, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Previously finished in beige, the truck was repainted black under current ownership. Towing mirrors, a roll bar, covered KC auxiliary lamps, a spray-in bedliner, and Smittybilt tubular bumpers with a hitch receiver and a trailer wiring harness have been added. The Carfax records a 2010 accident with damage to the left front as well as an accident occurring around 2015.

The body has been lifted over aftermarket 15″ wheels, which feature black centers and polished lips and wear Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires showing 2015 date codes. Assisted braking is via front discs and rear drums. A Statler Toyota banner is included in the sale and pictured in the gallery below.

The cabin is trimmed in grey vinyl with cloth inserts on the twin reclining bucket seats. Rubber mats protect grey carpets below, and a carpeted dashboard cover has been added. The center stack houses a pod with a Toyota altimeter and inclinometer, an Alpine CD stereo, and a flux capacitor USB charging device. Interior blemishes include a hole in the dashboard below the climate controls, a tear in the passenger door panel, and cracking around the left center vent.

Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer with an integrated six-digit odometer showing 293k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added by the seller.

The 2.4-liter 22RE inline-four is said to be a new crate engine that was installed in 2018 and features electronic fuel injection. The seller notes that air conditioning equipment has not been re-installed. An oil change was carried out in September of 2020, and a California emissions inspection was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.

The Carfax report shows the aforementioned accidents and lists history in California between 1991 and its most recent update in April 2019.
