BaT Auction: 1987 Nissan Be-1

This 1987 Nissan Be-1 is a Japanese-market car that was featured on BaT in August 2015 and was acquired later that year by the seller. Finished in white over brown, the car is powered by a 987cc inline-four paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include 12″ wheels, a powered fabric sunroof, and air conditioning. In September 2020 the oil was changed and the air and fuel filters were replaced. This Be-1 is offered with a Haynes repair manual, a spare tire, tools, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.

The Be-1 is based on the K10 Nissan Micra and is one of Nissan’s retro-styled Pike-series cars designed by Naoki Sakai. A reported 10,000 units were produced in the late 1980s, and this example is finished in white with a black fabric sunroof, tinted glass, and pop-out quarter windows. The seller notes areas that have been touched up on the hood and driver-side rear quarter panel.

Gray 12″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 165/70 Yokohama Ecos ES300 tires.

The right-hand-drive cabin features brown seat coverings joined by gray carpeting and trim. Lighter floor mats are fitted front and rear, and the car is equipped with air conditioning as well as a heater. A button on the console is said to activate a “Good Morning” greeting in Japanese.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a tachometer and a central 160-km/h speedometer with inset coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. The six-digit odometer shows 113k kilometers (~70k miles), 3k of which have been added by the seller.

The carbureted 987cc MA10S inline-four was shared with the Nissan Micra and factory-rated output was 51 horsepower. The seller notes smoke on startups, and service in September 2020 consisted of replacing the fuel and air filters as well as an oil change.

Power is delivered to the front wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
