BaT Auction: Twin-Turbocharged 8k-Mile 2005 Ford GT

This 2005 Ford GT is one of 2,022 manufactured for the model year and is powered by a 5.4-liter DOHC V8 fitted with a Heffner Performance twin-turbocharger system in place of the factory Lysholm supercharger. The car was first registered in Colorado in 2005 and was acquired in 2011 by the seller, who had the turbochargers added later that year. It is finished in Mark II Black over an Ebony leather interior, and additional equipment includes optional BBS forged wheels, slotted front and cross-drilled rear brake rotors, an onboard fire-suppression system, a Turbosmart adjustable boost controller, air conditioning, power windows, an aftermarket stereo, a Heffner Performance exhaust system, and rear bumperettes in place of the removed factory rear bumper. This Ford GT now shows just under 8k miles and is offered in California with removed factory components, an owner’s guide, service records, an AutoCheck report, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.

The first-generation GT took styling inspiration from Ford’s GT40 race cars of the 1960s and features aluminum body panels over an extruded aluminum space frame. This example is one of 237 finished in Mark II Black for the model year and was optioned without LeMans stripes. The rear bumper was removed during current ownership and replaced with dual bumperettes, and the seller notes that the removed bumper will accompany the car. A clear paint protection film has been applied to the nose and the rocker panels, and equipment includes a front splitter, a rear lip spoiler, and a rear diffuser. The windshield wipers have been removed.

Optional BBS forged alloy wheels measure 18” up front and 19” out back and wear Bridgestone Potenza tires measuring 265/40 up front and 345/35 out back. The braking system features slotted Brembo rotors up front, cross-drilled rotors out back, and red calipers at all four corners. A suspension lowering kit is fitted, and the double-wishbone suspension utilizes unequal-length aluminum control arms along with coilover shocks and stabilizer bars front and rear.

The cockpit features Sparco-designed bucket seats upholstered in Ebony leather with GT40-inspired brushed aluminum ventilation grommets, carbon-fiber frames, and provisions for racing-style harnesses in the seatbacks. Equipment includes an extruded-aluminum center console, matching vents and accents, air conditioning, power windows, aluminum pedals, a Ford Racing short-throw shifter, and an aftermarket stereo unit.

The GT40-inspired instrument cluster houses a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 220-mph speedometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. A Turbosmart eBoost2 boost controller and gauge is fitted in place of the factory boost gauge. The digital odometer shows just under 8k miles, approximately 5k of which were added by the seller since 2011.

The mid-mounted 5.4-liter DOHC V8 features an aluminum block and dry-sump lubrication. The factory supercharger was removed and a Heffner Performance twin-turbocharger kit was installed along with a red and blue engine dress-up kit by CoolTech of Newhall, California, in 2011. A ceramic-coated Heffner performance exhaust system is fitted with dual outlets designed to work with the deleted rear bumper. The seller states that the removed supercharger and exhaust system will accompany the car.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle with a helical limited-slip differential. The seller states that a SPEC clutch and an external transaxle cooler were fitted along with the twin-turbo system and that the removed clutch assembly will accompany the car.

The Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and shows registration history in Colorado, California, and Montana.
