BaT Auction: 1978 International Scout II

This 1978 International Scout II has been refinished in orange over a black interior and modified with power-assisted steering and brakes, 15″ Method wheels with BFGoodrich tires, a black soft top, Corbeau seats, a six-point roll cage, and a Tuffy center console. Power is from a 345ci V8 mated to a three-speed Torqueflite 727 automatic transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and 3.07:1 Dana 44 axles. The truck was acquired in May 2018 by the seller, who has since driven it approximately 1,000 miles as well as having an oil change carried out in December 2020. This Scout II is offered with a clean Oklahoma title in the name of the seller’s husband.

The truck has been repainted in Omaha Orange with black bumpers and trim, and features a six-point roll cage covered by a black soft top with roll-up windows.

Matte black 15″ Method wheels wear 32″x11.50″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. A wheel alignment is said to have been performed under previous ownership along with replacement of the brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and shocks. The power-assisted braking and steering systems feature front discs and a replacement 3.5-turn gearbox, respectively.

The interior is coated in a textured spray-on liner and fitted with Corbeau seats front and rear. A lockable Tuffy storage console with cupholders rests between the front sport seats. A period push-button AM/FM radio is mounted in the dash.

Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer as well as fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and charging gauges. Approximately 29k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with the actual total unknown.

The 345ci V8 is said to have been resealed and fitted with a rebuilt carburetor under previous ownership. Additional work reportedly included replacement of the belts, hoses, and spark plugs as well as the distributor cap and rotor. An oil change was performed in December 2020.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a Chrysler 727 automatic transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and Dana 44 axles that are said to house 3.07:1 differentials. Additional underbody photographs are provided in the gallery below.
